Xanax, Addictive Personality and Me!

Hard to believe it is 30 days since I had my chest busted open!! AND 30 days
since I have had a cigarette!!!

August 20, 2008 with glasses

When I was 31 it was confirmed that I was an addictive personality though I
had known it for years--moderation, whether regarding sex, food, smoking, booze,
etc., didn't exist in my life.

At 16 I landed in the hospital after over dosing on diet pills--I had lost 7
pounds taking a pill a day so I figured I would lose 14 pounds if I took 2 a
day--didn't work so I accelerated the amount of pills I took--was not a good
time in my life--ever since then I have been deathly afraid of drugs and the
fear of over dosing so instead I over dosed on food, booze and sex, not
necessarily in that order.

In any case between the operation and the refraining from smoking I became a
bundle of nerves and anxiety so I asked the doc for a mild tranquillizer--he
prescribed  0.25 mg of Xanax and I have been taking one every evening just
before going to sleep--now I am sure it is more psychological than physical but
I felt I was becoming addicted to Xanax so I decided to stop taking it. I could
not fall asleep Monday evening and finally at 7 AM Tuesday I gave in and took a
Xanax--last night I took 1/2 a pill and once again couldn't get to sleep and I
felt all my nerve endings were screaming so I gave in and took a pill--almost
immediately started nodding off!!!

Now I now Xanax is not a sleeping pill and I really don't want to become
dependant on it--give up smoking for pills??NO!!--so next time I go to see my
primary I will ask him for a mild, a very mild, sleeping pill and see if I can
stop the Xananx. Right now I am only taking one of the latter and that will be
late in the evening--I need my sleep to alleviate the anxiety of not smoking,
low energy and recovery.

Anybody know some natural herb that will help you go to sleep??

Are you sleeping better now? Chamomile tea and a good book (or a bad book, maybe something boring or redundant...hey, that's redundant, isn't it?)can often make a person drowsy enough to doze off naturally. A couple of other natural tricks is to take a few naps during the day to offset your new sleeping pattern at night without having your body lose the vital sleep time it needs OR do just the opposite and absolutely refuse to sleep or "rest your eyes" during any other time other than bedtime so you can train (re-train) your body as to when exactly you will sleep. Maybe a mild over-the-counter non-addictive sleep aid can be helpful, too. Turkey makes some people sleepy...have you had a turkey sandwich for a late dinner? Having relaxing music or sound effects playing softly in the background may help, too. Hopefully, you are already sleeping better and won't need any of my suggestions, but you can always store them away for future reference.

You look healthy! Glad to hear you haven't picked up a cigarette...I'm pulling for ya! Xanax is good medication, but if you just need something to help sleep...you are right to talk to the doc. Keep up the good work!

Valerian Root is good, and it's an herb. It helps you sleep...but with anything I'd talk to you Dr. first before taking it. You can get it at Wal-Mart

My mother in law was hooked on Xanax. She was very ill at the end and the Xanax was the only thing that gave her relief. When she got a new doctor, the doctor tried to get her off of it, but her withdrawal from the stuff was just horrible -- so horrible that the doctor figured, with her quality of life (She had COPD) that he might as well leave her on them. Be careful with that stuff, it is definitely dangerous and I think the doctor should have his head examined for even prescribing it. I do take Tylenol PM but that's as far as I go with that stuff.

Here's a good sleep aid: get in the sack with any novel by Tolstoy... Hearty congrats on remaining off the smokes!!!

Perhaps you can try Valerian. Here its recommended to make you esier go to sleep because it brings a kind of "rest" reduses feeling nervous. See : https://www.nationalnutrition.ca/SearchResult.aspx?KeyWords=sleep and scroll down (looked for an english version) or perhaps you can also try:

It sounds like you are doing so well. You are also doing wonderfully in taking your health into your own hands instead of just blindly following the doctors' orders.

There's a nerve on tour neck that once massaged it'll send you nodding. But it has to be done by a professional. If you get your other half to massage the top curved bunch of spine on the top of your back and simutaneously massage the grove in the back of your neck whilst laying in bed, you'll be sure to have the best nights sleep ever! Tell them to be carefull though, no hard pressure. Also, it's been know that a scalp massage can be just as relaxing, incorporate this in the neck massage and you'll be in heaven.

You look so fine.I like the glasses on.They have been molded to
your face.Without them it has a different character on the face.
Well anyway,it does not change anything.

well,if there is a health store nearby, you can talk to someone
about this.Maybe a Pharmacist can help you on the information
that you want or check out Google and see what they suggest.
Whatever you do,good luck.
