Weekly Medical Report and Holiday from Doctors!

I
do not plan on seeing anymore doctors (with one exception) the rest of
this year and of the 15 doctors I saw in 2008 I plan to fire 9-10 in
2009 and see 3 every 6 months and another 2, maybe, 3 times a year. I
will see my primary more often as I have to get my blood thinner
checked at least every other week plus there is a new development that
may require more visits at first. The math may not exactly add up but
there is a question about 2 of them.

I am also planning to change my
cardiologist because I don't really like him or have confidence in him.
He really doesn't listen to me.

I plan to cancel my January appointment with the gastroenterologist but will keep the one with the ENT because I am worried about my ear and throat plus the ophthalmologist
because my eyes are still red and 'gritty'. I don't see the vascular
surgeon until May when we will discuss my leg operations and I find it
a waste of time seeing the urologist 4 times a year for 2 minutes each
time.  The dentist is when the loose tooth falls out or if I decide tohave it pulled.

I did see my
psychologist today and told him I won't be back the rest of the year
and will call him after the first of January to schedule anappointment
but I think he knows I don't plan to as of right now I don't. He is a
nice guy and a good listener but he hasn't really helped me that I can
tell.

I spoke to my primary about taking lexapro and he is all for it--so why didn't he give it to me before?!?!? He
says that none of his patients had a problem with it and only one
complained about side effects and that was erectile dysfunction which
doesn't concern me--if you want to know why e-mail me privately and I
will tell you! LOL He did
want me to check with my insurance to see whether they cover it or not
which I did when I got home and they do. I called his office and left a
message to that effect and am waiting for him to call me back and let
me know when he will call in the prescription, when I should start it
and what to expect as far as side effects. I do know weight gain is one
of the side effects which doesn't thrill me but I can keep that under
control if I want to.

He said I will be taking the lexapro and lorazapam to start but that I should soon find that I won't need the latter. I do
want to talk to him before I start taking it as, for some reason (the
'reviews' I read on WebMD.com???), I am a little afraid of it but if it will lift me from my every day doldrums, the 2-8 PM being drained, I will gladly go for it.

As I've mentioned before I have stopped taking the lorazapem during the day and only take it at night to go to sleep. The anxiety
attacks have been at a minimum and the ones I had didn't last long
enough to take a tranquillizer. I have also started to take my 6
medicines in the evening while only taking my warfarin (blood thinner) and vitamins in the morning.

Hopefully the next 7 weeks will go okay so I won't feel a need to do a weekly medical report except, maybe, report on the lexapro IF I start taking it before the first of the year--that is something I am deciding/thinking about now.

I am not doing that--just taking a vacation from doctors (except my primary) for next 7 weeks and then in 2009 evaluating those I have and eliminating those I don't need who just keep me coming for the money!

Please, Martin, don't eliminate doctors so you can be your own doctor. It's important to keep medical connections connected, but, if you honestly don't like a doctor, feel a doctor isn't helping or contributing, then of course a doctor like that should be dropped or replaced. Your primary should be your best "friend" in all your medical "adventures", while the others are the "extended friends"...hopefully not needed forever, but good enough to keep around if you do.

Hi Martin, it sounds like you are taking control over all medical aspects of your care. I think that's great! It also sounds like you are beginning to feel better, since you haven't needed any anti-anxiety meds during the day. Again, that's great news! I like your haircut by the way.

That is a good picture of you there.
Do it slowly on the doctors and look before you leap.
Good idea to take a break from them.

Yah, those friggin' doctors have a racket don't they? I haven't seen my cardiologist since my gall bladder surgery...because one, he's a moron and two, he's a lush. My primary care physician (the world famous Dr. Whalebutt) checks my coumodin levels every coupla weeks and schedules all tests and treatments for all that ails me. It's just easier that way.

yer I'm not paying some jacka-- to be curt and dismissive pal

Sounds pretty clear. Indeed you had a tough year Martin, we all know that and can see it in the pics. Its good your voice still sounds optimistic when I call you once and a while. Your medical state is improving in little steps, just hope it will continue. Will mail you xx

I didn't experience any side effects on lexapro, well the weight gain part. but like you say, you can control that. I hope it works as well for you!

Dude, I have always liked you. I've always said "true feelings" (knowing they could be taken good or bad). Martin, this is a time you "really" need to listen to your "doctors advice"! I don't always agree with "docs" before hand, but once they have your test results and all.. it might be good to listen.

We've had our problems.. "so what".. that was "talk" this is life! Right now, I honestly think "YOU NEED" to follow your doctors advice. I ain't stupid Martin.. the pics I see you post show your "declining health". Don't give up.. you are LOVED by many!

Talk to me anytime if you want! If you don't want I won't push. All my info is on my website.

Seems to me your "giving up".. sure hope I am wrong about that!
