I don't know what the book had that made it such a big seller
but the movie version of "Twilight" certainly doesn't have it! The two leads are
bland and show no sparks between them that would make any sense of their love
story and for a love story their is very little of it.
The make up department has certainly
failed in this production. The male lead, Robert Pattinson, has lips that are so red you
expect him to leave an imprint on someone's face when he kisses them. Oh,
talking about kissing and this being a love story--if teenagers are this chaste
today I don't know why anyone feels there has to be sex education in schools.
Looking at his hair all I could think of is Chris Walkin in "Hairspray".
AJ could probably explain the whys of this
but the family, especially the father and Edward look more like albinos than
vampires while the 'bad' vampires look more like everyday humans than like
people who avoid the sun.
It is obvious that the director
Catherine Hardwicke likes the color
blue--more than three quarters of the picture is filmed through a blue filter
whether appropriate or not.
As a vampire story it is very lame and it is even lamer as a
love story. The best part of the movie is the beautiful glass home (glass home
and sunlight--something doesn't sound right here!) that the vampire family lives
in while close behind are the strong supporting cast as the non-vampire high
school students.
Talking about high school students I
really don't know if teenagers talk this way today but if I had to listen to them and their speech pattern for more
than 5 minutes I would be climbing walls.
The standout of the villains is Cam Gigandet as James. He is
menacing, roguish looking and a dynamic actor.
The movie leaves no doubt that there will be a sequel with the
last scene but I won't be there!
Your review pretty much goes along with the others I have read in various locations.
