Last Time--i Promise--this Year at Least

This
evening I will be going to see "Stephen Sondheim's Company with the New
York Philharmonic" which was done in concert in NY and filmed,
consequently having special engagements around the United States this
week. It is sort of a new way of bringing theatre to the 'hinterlands'.
Though it sounds like a rip-off , charging $15+ a seat it is a  lot
cheaper than the $100 to see on stage and every seat is like a front row
seat---still there is nothing like a live theatre performance! I will
be posting a review of this movie probably tomorrow.

In any case I won't be home this evening to write and post my blog or to see Fran Dresher's new sitcom about being married to a gay man but that's another story! LOL I do have a 'few notes' notes left about the tony Awards so let me get them out of my system.

The
song "I Believe" from "The Book of Mormon", Sutton Foster doing
"Anything Goes", Daniel Radcliffe, being introduced by Robert Morse who
did the original role and Matthew Broderick who starred in the first
revival, belted out and danced "The Brotherhood of Man" and numbers done
from "The Scottboro Boys", "Priscella, Queen of the Desert", "Catch Me If You Can", "Sister Act", "Memphis", "Company", "Spiderman" and Neil Patrick Harris's 3 musical numbers certainly kept the show moving and the audience entertained,

There certainly were a lot of sailors on stage with NPH's opening number and Sutton Foster tapping away.  A particular delight was the duet between Harris and Hugh Jackman, especially when they did the "A Chorus Line" bit---hooray!

Sutton,
winning best actress in a musical gave an emotional speech in which she
was saying goodbye to her dresser and friend of 9 years who got another job and  Nikki M. James was jubilant giving her speech for best supporting actress in a musical. Ellen Barkin,
given her award by Alec Baldwin as best actress in a play for "The
Normal Heart" was making her debut on Broadway and didn't hide her being
grateful with how the community welcomed her.  John Hicky won best supporting actor in "The Normal Heart" and the play won best revival. Mark Rylance,
best actor in a play, doesn't give 'thank you' speeches as he showed
the first time he won an award and this time, he, once again, quoted a
poem.

"The
Book of Mormon", as expected won a slew of prizes including Best
Musical" for the South Park boys and "Anything Goes" best revival with
not a person thanking Cole Porter for writing the score! Kathleen
Marshall won for her choreography for "Anything Goes" and John Laraquette, sour faced, accepted his award for "How To Succeed In Business".

Best director of a play and best play went to "War Horses" which Steven Speilberg has just finished filming and, of course, there was Whoopie's hat and McDormand's K-Mart outfit which is part of the awards show not intended humor.

Vanessa
Redgarve and James Earl Jones got a standing ovation and Norbert Leo
Butz won for best actor in a musical and he made mention of his sister
who had died while the show was trying out in its initial stage.

The Tony Award 2011 show was one of the best Tony shows,
certainly the best award show, and Neil Patrick deserves an Emmy for
his sparkling, talented emceeing of the show. That 'rap' song at the end
was unbelievable and you can see how they put it together by going to YouTube plus see all the highlights from the show.

And
now I patiently wait for the 2011-2012 theatre season here in South
Florida to see the shows that made news the past couple of years on
Broadway, going tonight to see "Company" watching the theatre crumbs PBS
offers during the year and next year's Tony Award show.

I'll give the Tonys a "look-see on youtube. I had to choose between the Mavs-Heat game or the Tony's. Sorry! Had to go with my Mav's on this one.

That's why the Heat lost here in Miami--I didn't watch them!

I'm babysitting at the present (he's napping). Besides, it's wet and windy and rather chilly. Shouldn't you be working on your magazine? Quit goofing off.
