Taken--a Movie Review

In
"Taken" you can see Liam Neeson fight at least 50 guys and get only a
tiny hole in the shoulder of his jacket. You can see Liam Neeson  kill
so many guys you lose the body count. You can see Liam Neeson run block
after block after almost being strangled to death or after fighting 10
guys and not once does he lose his breath or even breath hard. See Liam
Neeson and others jump off roofs, highway ramps and other places
without breaking a leg let alone not twisting an ankle except in one
incident where Liam limps for a minute or two and then doesn't.

Does
this movie make sense? No! Are there holes in the story? Many! Will you
forget this movie two minutes after seeing it? Probably! Is Liam a hunk
even growing older? Definitely! (Though Allen and Andre were more
interested in a young man who dies too early in the movie--for them!)
Is Famke Janssen wasted in the film as Liam's ex? Yes! Is the music way
too loud in at least 3 sequences which don't call for it? Yes! That is
not counting the loud music in one sequence that it is called for in
the plot.

There is nothing special or different about this movie
than any other shoot em up, good guy versus bad guy, keep the action
fast and furious though they do touch briefly, very briefly, on the
kidnapping, drugging and selling young girls into sexual slavery but
that would make it a different movie.

The direction, acting,
photography, writing, scenery production values are all okay--nothing
outstanding (not even the car chases) and nothing terribly wrong. You
know what you are getting walking into this movie and that's what you
get. I would much rather you spend your money seeing Milk or The Reader
but if you want to spend a cold, well cool, afternoon without taxing your brain, sit back and enjoy this slick, action movie taht has been done hundreds of times and will be done hundreds of more times!
