Arctic blast likely to be colder than initially
forecast
The arctic blast headed this way might be even a touch colder than initially forecast, meteorologist Kim
Brabander of the National Weather Service in Miami said.
“It’s trending down,” he said, referring to the temperatures.
Indeed, the weather service has posted a hard freeze watch for areas near Lake Okeechobee and far west
Palm Beach County, as it expects temperatures to be in the mid 20s for several
hours late Wednesday and early Thursday.
Also, a freeze watch has been posted for far western areas of Broward and
Miami-Dade counties.
Overall, here’s what to expect:
Tonight: Low 40s across the region. It also should be
breezy, taking wind chills into the 30s.
Wednesday: Morning temps in the upper 30s far inland, low
40s in the metro areas. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s, mostly sunny and still
breezy.
Wednesday night: Low to mid 30s. Wind chills of 25 to 30
degrees. Far western areas, including West Kendall, can expect freezing
temperatures.
Thursday: Mostly sunny. Morning temps in the low to mid 30s.
Afternoon highs in the low 60s, evening lows in the low to mid 40s in the metro
areas, about 50 at the coast.
Friday: Afternoon highs in the upper 60s, evening lows in
the mid 50s.
By the way, after the cold gives way to warmer weather over the weekend, be
cautious if you swim in the ocean; strong rip currents are expected to return,
said weather service meteorologist Barry Baxter.
"After cold like this, people like to hit the beach," he said.
