It's Not Always Sunny in Fort Lauderdale!

It is rainy 'season' in Florida
which means that at least once a day we will have anything from drizzles
to heavy downpours flooding the streets. The latter kind of storm
greeted Allen and I when we came out of seeing "Contagion". These
pictures really don't tell the story but you can see that no one was
walking around!

We
are known as the lightening capitol of the world and at night there are
some spectacular shows especially when it is over the ocean. The
strange thing about the rain is that no matter how strong it is and how
long it lasts--and it usually doesn't last that long--in an hour after
it stops the sun comes out, dries everything and you have no idea it
even rained. Even with all the lightening--and let's not forget the
thunder--we have very few blackouts, thankfully.

Here are a few pictures of rainy days in Fort Lauderdale.

And we know the sun WILL come out tomorrow!!

(Of course it didn't rain a drop today!)

Around here we call those sudden heavy downpours "Gully-washers," even though in this flatland there are no gullies.

South Florida doesn't have sewers and is built on coral so even an inch of rain makes a flood!

I believe the highest point in Florida is only 400 feet above sea level. Interesting that you don't have more floods. Entire villages were destroyed around here by the last two storms and we are 1000 and 2000 feet above sea level. Amazing that all that water collects in valleys and not on flat land.

Most of the water evaporates when it hits the very hot ground and then after when the sun comes out it all dries up. Our reservoir is still below normal.

It is starting to look like we have been up here lately.
