Jill
and I were going to see "La Cage Aux Folles" which takes place at St.
Tropez so what could be more in the theme than having dinner at the St.
Tropez Bistro on Las Olas Boulevard? Jill had a Groupon and I have never
tried the place though the owner(?) said it has been there 3 years and I
passed it hundreds of times.
The Groupon offered a limited menu but
if it is being used to get repeat business they should eliminate that
menu unless the rest of the food is the same.
Jill had the onion soup
which she said she would come back for while I had the Escargots in
garlic butter which was disappointing in that they weren't served in the
shell.
For our main course she had the Beef Bourguignon and though
she didn't say anything she left most of it while I had the duck which
was very dry and, obviously, hadn't been cooked that day but seemed to
have been from the week before.
I had the fondant chocolate for dessert which was very good.
I
don't know who it was who waited on us but I had the feeling it was
either the manager or, possibly, an owner but in either case at no time
were we felt welcome.
With the Groupon plus $9 for a glass of wine
and there was an extra charge (full price) for the second appetizer the
check came to $40, including a 20% tip and 6% tax which otherwise would
have come to about $93, again including the tip and tax..
I, personally, would have preferred to have eaten at the cafe in St. Tropez that was in "La Cage"!
The
bottom line is that I won't return to the St. Tropez Bistro and if you
do go I suggest you don't get the Groupon and be limited to what is on
their 'special' menu-- even better take the money and spend it on seeing
Christopher Sieber give a memorable performance in "La Cage Aux
Folles".
