Off to See the Magic of Thearte

Whether
it is a play with 4 people on a stage or a muscial with 20-30 dancers,
singers, musical instrument players the theatre has always held a
certain magic for me since I was 6 years old---yeah, yeah, back in the
Ice Age--and now 72 years later I am looking forward with anticipation
of going to see another show this evening.

"Ghost--The Musical"
is opening tonight at the Broward Performing Arts Center in Fort
Lauderdale for 2 weeks. I don't know how many of you have seen the 1990
musical but if you did the middle picture in the above collage is an
iconic moment from the movie only in that film was Patrick Swayze and
Demi-Moore and in tonight's show it will be Katie Postonik and Steve
Grant Douglas.

A small, probably not remembered by many, film
called "Unchained" in 1955 had a  song written by North and Zaret after
the title of the film and was a center piece for the 1990 film called
"Ghost" for that iconic scene.  The Righteous Brothers sang that song
and recorded it in 1965 and sang it in the 1990 movie. "Unchained
Melody" has had over 500 versions recorded but no one seeing the movie
will ever forget hearing it while Swayze and Moore filmed on of the most
romantic scenes ever filmed.

Will the show's version of the song
and the scene bring the same emotions or will it even be stronger on
the magic of stage where the company technicians will have to bring a
ghost (Sam played by Douglas) back to life on stage? Will that song be
sung and stay in my head for weeks if not months?

Folks I will let you know in my review Thursday or Friday.

Martin, I loved Unchained Melody all those years ago. I envy you getting to
hear it again.

It was definitely NOT the Righteous Brothers rendition!
