Preview of Cover and Editorial of October Gazette

(Will post final printed cover next week.)
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE GAZETTE?
By Editor Martin D. Goodkin
This
is the fifth edition of The Gateway Gazette that I have been ‘in
charge’ of getting to your door. I had previously submitted material
with some of my articles accepted, (Brilliant editor!) and some not (Who
hired that idiot? LOL) I have made a few mistakes along the way (How
could I forget to put the Publix trips on the September calendar?) and I
am sure there will be a few more in the future (Even with 4 proof
readers!) but my somewhat not small ego has been pleased with the many
compliments I have received.  I have, also, received some suggestions of
which I incorporated into the Gazette (Isn’t that Martin a genius?) and
some not (Who asked him to be the editor?) Hopefully each new issue
will be better than the last one.
The main and only purpose of the
Gateway Gazette is to keep the residents informed of what has happened,
what is happening and what will happen. This covers items from the
Gateway Office, Westminster Communities Main Office and from H.U.D.
There are reminders of rules and regulations that you acknowledged when
you signed your lease plus others that come along for your safety and to
make your life better.
The Gazette alerts you to special times to
keep your life interesting such as trips to shopping centers and
lunches, movie nights, bingo afternoon and evenings, celebrations of
birthdays, health fairs, various speakers, not to forget bus trips to
supermarkets so you can get supplies, and the  General Assembly meeting.
We
have introduced columns spotlighting your neighbors and staff members
so you could get to know them better. (We need more resumes from
residents so please get a form from Irene and I will gladly take your
picture for the column.) We have put your neighbors, gardens and pets on
the cover and have plans to follow up with a salute to Veterans (IF
they get their information in by the 10th) the maintenance and security
staff. Irene has written a Wellness column while you will always find
news from Suzanne on page 2 and Babs’ column on page 3. Along with
welcoming new residents, celebrating the birthdays of current residents
and saying a fond farewell to those who have left us we are featuring
different aspects of life here such as the library and the Residents
Association even talking about the flowers and trees on the premises. We
currently are offering space for residents who may want to get rid of
something and those who may want items. And we are making the calendar
as informative as we can and will add anything you might like to see in
it.
The Gateway Gazette is not a ‘conspiracy buster’ because there
are no conspiracies here at Gateway. The people in the office are not
out to get you but to make life better for you. Also the editor is not
an investigative reporter and has no idea why the stone benches were
removed but is more than willing to find out answers to questions you
may have.  Please feel free to send in any complaints, compliments,
story ideas, suggestions, questions, letters to the editor, etc. Like
all events at Gateway we need volunteers for the Gazette to make it
better and only YOU can do
that.

Comments:

Our monthly paper is a slick preprint with a calendar of events inserted. This sounds so much better and much more interesting.Good job, Martin.

I had to fight for a slick color cover but looks like it is too expensive!
