It is time for Johnny Depp to give up Jack Sparrow and get back to acting. "Hangover 2" is getting really bad reviews but it can't be any worse than this film. What's sad is that both films will probably be two of the biggest money makers of this year!
There is so much wrong with this film that a cameo, lasting, maybe a minute, with Judi Dench is the highlight. Take away the many repetitious
fights and you might have a 20 minute movie and that would be a love
story that is out of place here. And that love story is not the one
between Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz which is more of a sex story without the sex.
This Pirate film is a ham fest between Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane, Richard Griffiths and Keith Richards, with only Sam Clafin and Astrid Berges-Frisbey,
as the young lovers with the former a missionary and the latter a
mermaid, yes, a mermaid and, most of the time, Cruz playing at lower
levels.
At
one point in the movie I told Allen we have to stop going to the movies
just because it is Friday and more than one time he asked me what was
going on and what was said and I wasn't able to answer him!
As much as I admire Depp,
like Cruz and can enjoy hammy acting now and then by pros this one is a
loser all around. By the way we were the only two in the auditorium.
