Movies Have Always Been a Part of My Life Part 5

In
all probability one of the best movies ever made, with some of the best
movie quotes, is "All About Eve"--a classic in every way. I have always
liked 'backstage
' movies  whether about Broadway or Hollywood. These are a few of my favorie and sadly many, like "The Star", have not been seen.

Hollywood
seems to deal better with adapting plays to the movies than musicals
though there are exceptions to the rule such as "West Side Story", "The
King and I", "Sound of Music",  "Oklahoma", etc., but don't ever see the
movie versions of "A Chorus Line" or "Man of La Mancha"!

Here are some of the better movie adaptations of plays:

The stars of the past were protected by the studios. They kept hidden from the public anything that might affect the star's marketability at the box office. The best example that comes to my mind is Rock Hudson.

I love movies especially the old ones. There was something special about the stars of Hollywood when I was growing up. They seem to maintain a certain mystique about them; today it is all about exposing their bodies and all their faults. Most of the movies today are not worth the cost of $10-15 admission. There are very few that have a story line or theme that will grab and hold your attention. I guess I am just getting to old and critical.

I'm winding up the series talking about the stars of yesterday and how they were protected, mothered by, taught how to talk, walk and behave in public, etc., by the studios--the 'kids' today don't really have anyone to take care of them, give them limits, guide their careers.
'old and critical'--I don't know--sometimes I feel so jaded watching today's movies after seeing thousands of films!
