"They don't make them like they use to" is something the old
folks are always saying and, in a sense, they are right. Look at the
stars of the movies I have posted in this series , look
at the stars I've posted here--who are their equivalents today? Which
of the stars of today will have 30-50 year careers? Who will be taking
the place of Dustin Hoffman, Richard Gere, Al Pacino, Glenn Close, Julia
Roberts , etc.? You look at 'stars'
of today and who is the equal of Lana Turner, Rita Hayworth, Grace
Kelley, Ingrid Bergman, Gregory Peck, Peter O'Toole, Liz Taylor, Cary
Grant?
The old stars were trained, nutured,
taken care of, watched over, hidden from scandal by the studios. They
were taught how to walk, talk, dress, appear in public and, very seldom
if ever, starred in their first few pictures. They weren't shown nude or
cursed on screen nor would they ever appear on a commode!
Are
there stars of today who will be stars in 2021? 2041? 2061? Stars who
will command the public's attention (for their acting) when they are in
their 50s? 60s?
