ACLU fights blocking of LGBT websites

ACLU fighting to stop filtering of LGBT
websites

As a first step in a national campaign, the
American Civil Liberties Union recently sent letters to schools in Michigan and
Missouri that asked them to stop blocking educational websites about LGBT issues
from its students
. In the past, the ACLU successfully got Tennessee
school districts in Knoxville and Nashville to stop using filtering software
that blocked educational LGBT websites in 2009. The ACLU is planning to send
several dozen records requests in the next couple months as a part of this
national campaign.

  • Indiana Senate disrupted by pro-gay marriage
    protestors

During discussions over an amendment to the Indiana
state constitution that would ban gay marriage and civil unions, Indiana senators were disrupted by protestors in the
Senate gallery who screamed “stop hating, stop dividing, stop
pandering.”
The Senate president closed the gallery, and people
began screaming “jobs not hate” as they were shoved out.
Sadly, the protests were all for nothing and the amendments passed in the
House overwhelmingly. The Senate
will most likely vote on it later this week.
The Senate passed the ban today.

  • Catholic high school offers look at anti-gay
    class

Indianapolis’ Cardinal Ritter High School’s Chaplain,
Father John Hollowell, recently filmed a class in which he taught against
homosexuality
. His arguments range from bogus (he compares
homosexuality to alcoholism) to laughably nonsensical (there’s something about
how infertile couples are losing teams that still help the league, but gays
bring everyone down…I don’t know, he lost me there).
GoodAsYou.org watched all three videos and listed  the finer points of his
speech here. If you have some time and patience on
your hands, check out the first video here.

  • Ex-minister’s long journey to accepting
    homosexuality

Murray Richmond, a former Presbyterian minister for 17 years, wrote an
excellent piece for Salon.com about his long journey to change his
opinion about gay marriage
. Richmond said three people helped
change his mind: a gay Christian who believed God values his pride over his
sexuality, a gay parishioner who asked to be exorcized as an extreme option to
cure his gayness and a woman whose clergy husband left her for another man. It’s
a great read and offers a refreshing perspective on someone who has been able to
step aside and reevaluate their bigoted beliefs.

  • Howard Stern tears Victoria Jackson, DADT supporters and other
    anti-gay bigots a new one

Shock jock Howard Stern recently sank his teeth into
former SNL cast member and anti-gay/Glee crazy Victoria Jackson on his talk
show
. Stern played clips from Jackson’s interview on HLN and called
her out for being the bigot that she is. He also goes into a rant against DADT
supporters and Planned Parenthood opponents. NSFW for language. Listen here.

I am not a fan of Howard Stern but I liked his take on Jackson: "She is not a homophobe. God is". Why do people fear homosexuality so much? To all of the Christians who oppose homosexuality I say: Orientation is not an individual choice; and if God makes no mistakes, can't we just accept the differences in orientation and move on?

It is usually men who speak out against homosexuality--just like it is mainly men who speak out against abortion--and so on--I don't care who is heterosexual so why care who is homosexual?
Some people just don't have a life.

Gee, I'm so proud to be a Hoosier!
Things like this is exactly why I'm a lifetime member of ACLU. I hope you are, too.
