Happy the Day After & Catching up with Republican

ABOVE FORT LAUDERDALE BEACH

"EVERY
GUN THAT IS MADE, EVERY WARSHIP LAUNCHED, EVERY ROCKET FIRED, SIGNIFIES
IN A FINAL SENSE A THEFT FROM THOSE WHO ARE HUNGRY AND ARE NOT FED,
THOSE WHO ARE COLD AND NOT CLOTHED."      PRESIDENT EISENHOWER

******************************************************************

Talk
about the 4th of July--I watched "1776" on TV and then the Capitol
Fourth followed by the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular, then
the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular after which I went down to The
Point and watched the fireworks set off from Pompano, Hollywood and Fort
Lauderdale beaches plus the barrage from downtown.  By the way I now
know ALL the words to "The Stars and Stripes Forever" until next year!

The
WOW! of the whole evening was Jennifer Hudson singing her signature
song from "Dreamgirls", "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going"--talk about
setting off fireworks!!!

******************************************************************

Now
that President Obama has declared North Florida---the Republican seat
of the State---a disaster area I wonder if Governor Scott will refuse
help and how many Republicans will live in damaged homes and refuse
Federal Aid?
None? I have a feeling they will take the handouts, or as they call them, 'entitlements'.

******************************************************************

AT&T
must be in financial trouble--they just raised their 'residential line'
$2 which also increases all the federal taxes and are cutting $4 off
the lifeline for poor people, which will now raise the telephone bills
of all poor people almost $7 a month.

******************************************************************

For
how many months are we going to be inundated with the"Tomcat"--Cruise
& Holmes--not to mention Scientology, in papers and magazines, on TV
and all the media beating it to death? Of course the 'gay--is he or
isn't he?--rumors' will start again--does anyone care about all this
nonsense? And when are they going to drag in the whole Travolta garbage?

******************************************************************

I
must be getting old--Eva Marie Saint is celebrating her 88th birthday--she made so many great movies including "On The Waterfront",
"North By Northwest", "Raintree County" to name a few.

Talking
about movies, if you are reading this early enough, TCM is showing a
forgotten gem called "Ace in the Hole" with Kirk Douglas and Jan
Sterling from 1951--as true now as it was then---8 PM (EST).

******************************************************************

How
does anyone read, let alone believe and quote anything from, the New
York Post?  It is one of Murdoch's worst scandal sheets.

******************************************************************

Doing
my 7 Decades series (by the way thanks for all the e-mails praising it)
I am amazed at what I remember and what I don't. I'll read an entry in
my diary and either names or places or surroundings while when I read
another I remember everything down to the last detail. I find this
especially true since I started the Memphis decade.

I watched the three shows you watched and then went to our fireworks. It seems that American lives are the same no matter where we live.

Which could be a good thing--sometimes

Liked this post, Martin. It touched on a variety of things, all of which were interesting. Hard to believe Jennifer Hudson did NOT win American Idol. However, she has done quite all right. Wonder who won the year she was on.

I had to look it up 'Jennifer Hudson lost to Fantasia in season 3' Fantasia has done pretty good for herself on Broadway

Wow! That was a whirlwind of catchup!
I have to admit that I have never seen 1776. I should see if I can get my hands on a copy through the library system.
I got a kick out of your comment with regard to Prez Obama and his aid for northern RI. It made my morning. The politicos were really going after the idiocy of Republican Governors turning away the new federal Medicaid funds that are part of Obamacare as being insane for the reasons you listed!

"1776" is a good musical about the Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence--they show it every July 4th!!!

Utility bills are always going up, they always find a way. The electric bills on my two rental cabins went from less than $6 a month in the winter, when closed down, to $16.00 a month (each) every month of the year, and any usage is on top of that.

The problem is the lifeline is for poor people in order to have phones and they are changing the aid to $4 less plus increasing the residential line and Federal taxes--are poor people getting richer???

Po people should sign up for the Obamaphone! LOL The program was probably put in place during the Bush years. Safelink dot com.
comment by jjoohhnn on July 5, 2012 7:18 PM ()
The problem with safelink--and yes it was before Obama--is that it is meant for poor people but you can either have that OR a landline phone--in Florida with a hurricane cellphones are the first thing to go out--also there is no DSL with safelink so you would have to take an expensive Internet program and in today's world a person needs the Internet today--my current phone bill, with Internet, is $21.50 a month (I don't make long distant calls and haven't in 30 years)now it will be about $30--may not sound like much but to someone living on less than $1,000 a month income it hurts!
