The Government Can Ruin Your Day! Part 2

I forgot to mention that on Tuesday while I was waiting for the bus a person put a small package in my hand and kept on walking. It was a small seedling wrapped in a wet cloth in a sack. It was for Earth Day and had 'plant a tree' on the outside of the bag.

I didn't have a flower pot around so as we did our errands I kept an eye out for one but though I was able to buy potting soil I didn't find a pot. When I got home I called Emily who had an extra flower pot and I planted the tree. As soon as the roots take hold I plan to plant it outside in our 'backyard.

Also, we stopped at Winn-Dixie to pick up some items they had on 'special'--with food prices being what they are and still rising you have to get the deals when you find them.

Alright, back to picking up the mail. There was a letter from the Department of Family and Children telling me that I had to recertify for my monthly allotment of food stamps. Now don't get too excited--I get $10 A MONTH for food. Luckily I don't need it BUT in order to get some other benefits ($13 off my phone bill, etc) I have to apply for them. Can you imagine living on $10 a month for food?? No wonder you hear of some old folks eating cat food!!

In any case I can do it via the Internet. I, usually, read and comment on blogs from 7-9 in the evening so off I went to the web site. Folks, it took 2 and a half hours to fill out sheets and sheets of papers asking stupid questions that they already have on file. Of course I am lucky that I have a computer--if I had to apply at the office it would have taken a full day.

Finally I was finished and went to my e-mail and found I had over 50 'notifications' of blogs and comments besides regular e-mails. I, also, found that we had sold two more coins which leads to some paper work and preparing to mail the coins with insurance and delivery confirmation forms.

Long story short--24 hours later and I am still catching up on last night--all because of the government and $10 in food stamps!!! Don't get me wrong--I am glad there are food stamps available but $10???? I'd rather they give it to a single mother but can't do that--either I take them or they 'disappear'!!

Not to end on a downer note but do you know that 1,000,000 MILLION CHILDREN EVERY DAY ARE NEGLECTED OR ABUSED and our government wants to cut funding to organizations that deal with them?!?!?!?

Sadly, 'The money we have wasted over there' will be wasted here--they don't want to spend money where it is needed but where it will get them more votes or put more money in their friend's pockets!!!
We shouldn't have one hungry and/or abused child or senior citizen in this country!

What bothers me is that we are fighting a battle overseas that we are not going to win, no matter how it turns out. The money we have wasted over there, coupled with the money we give every piss-ant 3rd world country could be used to better the living conditions of people right here at home.I am sick and tired of seeing children having to go hungry, I am sick and tired of seeing senior citizens scared to leave their houses. I just hope when November rolls around this country will get someone who can do this changing.

Nice tree! Give it plenty of loving, ok, Martin?

Sorry about all the hooplah, fussiness, time-consuming, form-filling time you had to spend to keep yourself "eligible and active", but what kind of government would this be without tons of paperwork and forms to go through?

Oh, and that "downer" note you added at the end...well, it made me HAVE TO copy & paste one of my blogs from "the other site" over to this site. Abuse is a worldwide epidemic with so many victims being children or adults who are still dealing with the effects and behavior of abuse. While there are plenty of other issues to be rightfully fought for or against that can and often be handled by adults, this is an issue that MUST be dealt with by adults because the children and the damaged-from- suffering adults are not able to fight this enemy.

Anything at all government is too much of a hassle. Mega tonight, sweetie! Let's win this thing and get it over with. Also, martin, do you know by any chance who I would talk to about finding out how much a stamp collection is worth? Hubby has one from his step father that is all German stamps 40-50 years old -- some older and they are mounted and perfect. I don't know how to find out their actual worth? Know how I should find out?

That's what upset me so much with Bush...he has cut funding to programs that are really necessary. I have written several letters in support of domestic violence and abuse agencies here in Hawaii because of the budget cuts and lack of funding to help the women and children that are being abused. Martin, thank you for your support towards those that are being abused.
