I believe was born gay--if it is a choice I made a great choice and have never
regretted it. I was gay from the minute (if not before) the doctor hit me on the
backside but didn't acknowledge it until I was eleven and came out when I was
twelve and I have been fighting for Gay rights ever since.
I don't know when a Gay
lifestyle, a Gay agenda and/or a Gay culture was first talked about but
certainly the first two have been bandied about the past 10-20 years. I am Gay BUT I don't know how either term applies to me or other gay
people,
My dictionary defines
agenda as a list of things to be dealt with at a meeting. Did I miss the
meeting? When did it take place? Who was there? What's on the list? Did someone
speak for me? How does the Gay agenda differ from a nongay agenda? Do gay people want something
different than nongay people want? Or
is our pursuit of happiness, our pursuit of equal rights the same? What's the
Gay agenda?
Now as to lifestyle that
same dictionary--"Webster's New World Dictionary of the American Language"--defines it as an
individual's whole way of living. Now, as far as I know, Gay people, like nongay people, work in every field from
being doctors to football players to restaurant workers and salesclerks,
lawyers, social workers, etc. They all, Gay and nongay, go to movies, basketball games,
parades, Disneyworld. Each group has
those that steal, lie, cheat, help others, volunteers, give to charities, go to
church, believe in God, are Atheists, use or don't use computers, have or don't
have children, have partners or don't, are promiscuous or faithful. What is the
Gay lifestyle?
Webster defines culture as 1) Improvement of the
mind 2) Development by special training or care and 3) the skills, arts, etc.,
of a given period.
Let's see--both Gays and
nongays go to school, to college, take
special courses, read, google, etc. to
improve their minds. There are Gay and nongay writers, musicians, artists, singers,
actors, , builders, gardeners, decorators, hair dressers, clothes designers,
computer geeks, poets, playwrights, directors, producers, photographers, bloggers,--there are both in all the skills
and arts of any given period. What is Gay culture???
I am curious as to how you
would define the 3 terms whether you are Gay or nongay. What are your thoughts? As a nongay person when you say gay lifestyle
what do you mean? Do you really think
Gays are better in some fields than nongays? As a Gay person how do you see
yourself different than a nongay person or don't you?
Now don't get me wrong as
I do see myself different than a nongay person and, in fact, different than
many Gay people but that's for another blog.
