Though it might seem otherwise from my posts there is more to Fort Lauderdale than
restaurants and eating out. When people come to visit there really is
so much to see from the Everglades to the Hollywood boardwalk that it
takes more than 2 weeks to see everything. Following are a few of the
spots I like to take people.
Water
Taxi is one of the best ways to see why Fort Lauderdale is called the
'Venice of Florida'. Canary-yellow water cabs cruise across the New
River's glittering waters, delivering passengers to cultural,
historical, and retail attractions along the tropical waterfront and
shows the multi-million dollar homes of the rich and famous. You can get
off any of the stops and re-board whenever you are ready.
The
Fort Lauderdale History Center is on the riverfront in the middle of a
beautiful walk that starts at the Broward Performing Arts Center (see
below) and takes you to the Los Olas shopping and dining area. There
are expansive collections of artifacts, images, and blueprints
highlight local history dating back to pre-colonial times.
The
Broward Center for the Performing Arts is celebrating its 20th
anniversary this year. A performing-arts complex plays host to
concerts, plays, and Broadway performances.
Museum
of Discovery and Science is open 365 days a year and is right down from
the BPAC. This museum spotlights the wonders of science in 85,000
square feet of exhibit space and an IMAX 3-D theater including a clock
in the courtyard that is only 1 of 2 in the world. It is now going
through a major expansion.
Museum
of Art Fort Lauderdale was designed by noted American architect Edward
Larrabee Barnes. This contemporary gallery showcases Caribbean, Cuban,
American, and European art and through the year hosts major traveling
shows from all over the world.
And
what would a trip to Fort Lauderdale be without time on the world
famous beach 'where the boys' are? Fort Lauderdale Beach has more than 7
miles of white-sand beaches with shops, restaurants, and entertainment
venues. Fort Lauderdale is now celebrating 100 years since it was
incorporated.
Last,
but not least, only those in the know get to visit my place!! (Gateway
is definitely a place to see!) And, oh yes, there are at least a dozen
restaurants!!!

Then be yourself."
