(I HAVE ALSO ADDED THE COMMENTS TO THE ARTICLE AT THE END--VERY INTERESTING--NONGAYS COULDN'T BE MORE ALL OVER THE MAP!)
Carrie Fisher ‘outs’ John Travolta–again.
Carrie
Fisher was once known for her role as Princess Leia, but she has
recently made a new name for herself due to her continued efforts to out
John Travolta.

Former
friend of the Travolta family Carrie Fisher insisted upon Travolta’s
homosexuality in Out last year, and doesn’t think we heard her the first
time. Below is an excerpt from the interview between The Advocate and Fisher:
Q:
“In the September 2009 issue of Out, you participated in its monthly
Can I Be Blunt? column by sharing 10 things that gay men should know
about straight women.
One of those things was,
“We don’t really care that John Travolta is gay.” I know you and
Travolta go way back, so let’s get really blunt here: Does his legal
team have any business demanding Gawker remove a recent post suggesting
that he’s given blow jobs?”
Fisher: “Wow! I mean,
my feeling about John has always been that we know and we don’t care.
Look, I’m sorry that he’s uncomfortable with it, and that’s all I can
say. It only draws more attention to it when you make that kind of legal
fuss. Just leave it be.”

Travolta’s legal team has been battling Gawker.com to remove the article suggesting the star has a long-term habit of visiting gay bathhouses in California.
Whether or not Carrie Fisher has any substantial evidence is unclear.
But
Salon.com notes that it is becoming more acceptable for stars to come
out, now that Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris and others have paved
the way:
“When Travolta first became a sex symbol 35
years ago, there was no such thing as an openly gay star…But in ensuing,
more enlightened years, performers who began their careers more
circumspectly have transitioned gracefully into successful post-closet
careers.”
……..yawn.
If Travolta was an opponent of gay rights, I’d say out him but since he’s not…..who cares…
To
the best of my knowledge, John Travolta has never attacked our
community. So, he doesn’t quality for the “hypocrite” exception to the
“we don’t out each other” rule.
I vote for leaving him alone.
I think the fact that Travolta has not sued the site pretty much sums up whether the information is true or not.
But
I disagree with the former poster. Travolta is a high profile member of
the Church of Scientology – a major anti-gay force in politics.
He therefore is open to being both outed and called on his implicit (through silence) support of said organization.
Jayzuz
– leave the man alone. Gay, not gay, who cares? He has a family who
could potentially be hurt by allegations that imply his marriage is a
sham. He’s not demonstrated any anti-gay bias; and as for being a member
of the church of scientology – they are no more or less ‘phobic than
any number of other religious sects.
kate: Nonsense.
The Church of Scientology has contributed millions of dollars to anti-gay political causes – both in the U.S. and Europe.
Most churches do NOT engage in said behavior.
If
he chooses to maintain his position as an outspoken advocate of said
‘church’, he is not entitled to either privacy nor concern for his
‘family’ – since he demonstrates no concern over my family or the
families of my friends.
I’m with Carrie on this one. If you want a
private life, don’t make yourself a public spokesperson for a
homophobic organization. Or hold yourself up as some ‘family man’ – who
spends numerous nights getting blown in bathhouses.
Do
these two really matter any more?…John might have been the shit 35
years ago…but now? If he’s blowing someone or getting blown…where are
the guys at with a “story”? Does John have a band of lawyers with him to
force non-disclosure agreements be signed and paid for everytime he
goes out?…and carrie Fisher…so what! She’s half crazy!…neither one is
very important or interesting here….but she does have a point …”thou
dost protesteth too much!”…but I still don’t care.
I’m with Peter on this one. If he engages in gay behavior, it’s hypocritical given his “religious” affiliation.
I
also agree with posters that this is essentially a non-event…event.
Still, since we tend to gravitate toward discussion of many non-events,
I’d say the discussion of the issue is appropriate.
Personally, I like Travolta and I like Fisher. The enemy of my friend isn’t necessarily my enemy.
Only
the “Church” of Scientology knows for sure. The way they maintain the
membership and loyalty of celebs like Travolta and Cruise is by helping
them become “Clears” using a skin galvinometer. For example, they might
ask, “Are you a homosexual?” The lie detector might say “Yes,” and then,
under the pretense of making a Travolta or a Cruise quit “not-ising”
reality, they keep these secrets on their converts. When someone like
Travolta or Cruise hints they might want to quit, they are told, “OK, go
right ahead, but we are going to have to tell the public you left
because you are a homosexual. Now, how ’bout that million dollar
contribution you said you would make to the Church?” Works like a charm.
Both Travolta and Cruise are IDIOTS.
If
Travolta wants to keep things secret, fine. People have been talking
about this for years. On the other hand, Fisher has no obligation to lie
about something that is obviously well known to many within their inner
circle. She hasn’t given any intimate details, just stated a fact. Nor
do any of the people that Travolta has had sex with (allegedly) over the
years. Odd how he has no problem putting his marriage and family in
front of the media. For being gay is no more or less than that. As
Fisher said, it just is, no big deal. Get over it John.
As for
those of you who suggest he isn’t doing anything to our community so
leave him alone, I disagree. If you constantly lie (if he is) and hire
lawyers to sue and shut people up who tell the truth (if he is, they
are) suggests that he thinks there is something wrong with being gay. A
high profile personality like Travolta who is so disgusted by the idea
that someone thinks he may be gay he needs to sue, and has this all over
the press, is just as damaging as some senator who nobody has ever
heard of with anti gay legislation that nobody will ever see passed. If
someone suggests I’m straight I don’t sue or get freaked out, I laugh
and say, “uuhhh, yeah right.” And move on.
Thousands of midwestern
housewives are tsk tsking at poor Travolta and those nasty homosexuals
trying to destroy him. May they all burn in hell……. (and that’s without
ever taking on the scientologists)
are
you kidding me…whose business of anybody’s to “out” anyone! And why the
hypocracy of the LBGT community…What about the “B”? Why is there not
outrage that that word (bisexual) is not being used when referring to
him?
It
is not Carrie Fisher’s OR anyone else’s place to “out” someone. If this
man is bi at the least…it is HIS business and NO ONE else’s. If he is
not ready to come out and share his glory with the world, then I do not
see why Carrie Fisher feels it is her business. Perhaps she is in need
of some type of exposure and this is the only way she can get it…at the
expense of another. Sad, sad, sad….
Who
care’s who’s gay and who isn’t? It’s enough to live one’s own life the
best one can without obsessing over “is he or she gay or isn’t she or
he?”
This is the 21st century. Time to get past all that.
