I
know nothing about a car except that it gets you from point A to point
B and if it doesn't you yell for help which is why when I got my first
driver's license and car I also joined AAA. I have mentioned before thta in an avocation exam I got zero in mechanics and that mark stands
today. I don't know, and don't want to know, how to change a tire or
anything else about acar except that it looks good and I look good in it and it runs!
The
reason I bring this up is that last night I was off my computer for 2-3
hours though it was still working. I know nothing about computers/the
Internet except that when something goes wrong I yell for my computer
Guru Chuck. Chuck lives in Memphis and how he did it I don't know but
he got into my computer from Memphis and it was almost like he was
sitting at my desk and working away. I cannot explain what he did, why
he did it and how he did but he did!!!
Claire Danes on the left and the real Temple Grandin on the right
While Chuck was 'playing' with my computer I watched a new made for HBO movie called "Temple Grandin" about an autistic child who became an expert in animal husbandry and is now a professor at Harvard. I know some bloggers here have autistic children and if I make any mistakes talking about
the subject now or when I write the review during the week please don't
hesitate to correct me. In any case I have no idea about autiism except what I have seen in the movies ("Rain Man" for example) or reports on "60 Minutes", or other news programs, where I get the feeling that each child has a certain part of their brain that makes them a genius
in a certain field whether it be mathematics, playing the piano or, in
Temple's case, has an affinity for animals and her mind can solve very
involved problems through pictures.
I
will be reviewing the movie sometime soon but as HBO will probably
repeat it a dozen times and put it out on DVD soon, if it isn't
already, I strongly suggest you catch it if you can. Danes gives an
awardwinning performance and though there may be one too many cliches
or too much stereotyping it is a moving story of an extraordinary women.
Bipolar
disorder is something else I know very little about except from movies
("Beautiful Mind", old Bette Davis and Joan Crawford movies, etc.)
though I did have two friends that had it and I know they had medicine
that helped control their mood swings and when they didn't take their
medicine or felt they didn't need it havoc was spewed all over their
loved ones and friends and, in many cases, strangers.
The mind is a wondrous
thing and like a car if mine doesn't get me from point A to point B I
will yell for help. All I need to know is that something isn't working
right and I have no shame asking for that help.
Ummmm--now
I have to see if Chuck stole any of my porn pictures--kidding as I
don't have any--on my computer that is!!!--or if he took some e-mail
addresses of my hot tricks--nah, he wouldn't do that as he knows I
always share the good ones--hey, what are friends for??
Technology, and the mind, will always befuddle me but, also, keep me intrigued!
