- Actress Amber Heard comes out
Amber Heard, who has acted in movies such as Pineapple Express and Zombieland, recently came out at GLAAD’s 25th Anniversary. The blond actress presented at the event and showed up with her partner Tasya van Ree. She spoke with our friends at AfterEllen about being out in Hollywood, the media’s obsession with labels and why
she decided to come out. My favorite quote from her brief interview:
“I personally think that if you deny something or if
you hide something you’re inadvertently admitting it’s wrong. I don’t
feel like I’m wrong. I don’t feel like millions of people are wrong
because they love who they love or they were born how they were born.
I’m proud to be on the right side of history and I can do nothing more
than encourage people to look at their lives and ask ‘What side of
history am I on? Am I doing the right thing or am I doing the wrong
thing?’”
It’s amazing that such a young actress is so proud to be open about
her sexuality. And she’s pretty articulate about it as well. The two
make a pretty good looking couple.

- Former Belmont University soccer coach fired for being gay
And now for some sad news. Lisa Howe, Belmont University’s former head soccer coach, was recently let go from her position after she revealed that she and her partner are expecting a baby. The
university claims she resigned voluntarily. Team captain and Belmont
junior Sari Lin, however, said that the school’s athletic director, Mike
Strickland, told her the school basically has their own “don’t ask,
don’t tell” policy. Team members and other students held a rally on
Sunday.
- Atlanta settles with local gay bar
The city of Atlanta reached a $1 million settlement with the Atlanta Eagle Bar after a botched police raid occurred
at the bar on September 10, 2009. The city council voted 14-0 yesterday
in response to a federal lawsuit filed by a private attorney on behalf
of 19 people who claimed they were illegally searched and detained
during the raid.

- Screenplay based on Lance Bass’s adventures in the works
No, really. Lance Bass told the NY Post that a screenplay is being made about an adventure he had in Mexico with model Cheryl Tiegs.
The two were joined by Alan Sorkin’s ex-wife last month when they tried
to travel to a wedding in Mexico. Apparently they drove through a very
dangerous part of Mexico. So it’s like the gay-version of the Hangover
with Mexican drug-lords thrown in?

- Singapore water polo team criticized for “inappropriate” swim suits
The Singapore men’s water polo team recently came under fire by the
Singapore government for the placement of the flag’s moon on their swim
trunks at the Asian Games. I wonder whose idea it was to put a strip of
wet, white fabric in that spot? They’re already in Speedos; it’s not
like more was needed to bring attention to that area.
