Splinters and Dog Nesting

The other day I got a splinter in the palm of my hand, right in the meaty part. I tried to use a tweezers to get it out but I couldn't grab the end of it. Well it was really bothering me so I told hubby. He is an expert at getting out splinters. He seemed a little too excited to help me out. Then he says he just put a new blade in his razor knife. UGH! I couldn't watch as he worked on it. I jumped a couple of times but he got the darn thing out. And quite expertly too. I expected to see my hand bleeding but no, it wasn't. I went and cleaned it out and it feels much better today!
Rambo is a strange dog. He likes to make nests. Normally at night he sleeps in his chair in the living room. Its a big overstuffed chair and only Rambo is allowed in it. Believe me you wouldn't want to sit in it anyway. Well the past two nights Rambo has decided to come into the bedroom to sleep. But he makes a nest. He digs at my pile of dirty clothes until he has them just right, then he sleeps on them. What gets me is he takes so much time to get his nest just right. He lays there for about 5 minutes and then gets on the bed.
I have told you how I have a gate across the one bedroom for the kittens. Mainly so the beagle won't get in there and bother them. Well whitey has figured out he can climb over the gate. He was strutting around the house this morning, just full of himself. So I moved the gate to the hallway so the kittens now have a couple of rooms to explore. Gerbil is too fat to climb over the gate and when his brother would escape he would just sit there and cry.
so there are the latest escapades of my crazy animals. Rambo is part chow part german shepherd. So to see him making a nest is quite hilarious.

I had a pitbull/greyhound mix, a rather large dog, and he would do the same nesting thing. It was always kind of cute until he jumped into my bed and did it, stealing my covers.

Oh heavens! I haven't really gotten a splinter in some time. But I have gotten paper cuts, which aggravate me quite a lot... I put on a numbing cream. I didn't know about dog nesting behaviors. That was really interesting! And, I've read the comments, so many dogs do it.. That means I should have heard of it, but haven't. Glad you wrote about it. I can just see him arranging the clothes!

My dog, Ku'uipo does the same thing with the blanket that she lays on. She maneuvers it as best she can and then sleeps on it.

I have 2 budgies (you would call them parakeets), 2 tiels and 17 finches--I started with 2 and didn't know they were worse than rabbits!!! have separated the males from females for a year now!
In the morning they ALL chat, sing and the same at sunset--during the day they seem to rotate the chirping!

Nesting is normal behavior that the dog has kept from his wolf beginnings. My dog tried to make a nest in the carpet, but made a hole in the carpet instead. Oh well... I need a new carpet anyway.

Congrats to your hubby for his splinter first-aid success! I'm glad the cats have more room to explore. Maybe we could call your happy home "Wild Kingdom"!

Yikes... splinters are nasty little things! That's too cute about the kittens and Rambo's nest-making.

I hate splinters. I can't work on getting them out, either. I am not sure why. The pain of using tweezers or a pin doesn't bohter me. It is just something about the anticipation.
Rambo sounds adorable.
Beagles are so smart. The beagle I had when I was just a kid used to climb our short chain link fence and get out of the yard!

Those splinters are pesky little devils! I pleased that hubby was so expert in its removal. Your animals sound so delightful; they all have their little quirks, don't they.

"Gerbil is too fat to climb over the gate and when his brother would escape he would just sit there and cry"...okay *that* is kinda sad!
But Whitey strutting around had me in giggles.
