Goodnight Irene

Well Irene blew though here with little damage to us! We never lost power which was my biggest fear. I think I slept through the worse of Irene, the eye was near us at 2 AM. I went to bed around midnight. I was exhausted from all the worrying I guess. I slept pretty good! LOL
No trees down in our yard. I was concerned about one of our trees that is right next to the house and the power lines. But it survived. No flooding in our yard. Our pool overflowed but it is still standing.
It could have been alot worse if Irene had tracked just slightly more west. The eye wall passed us on the east coast out to sea.
I was reading my facebook and my poor friends at walmart are expected at work today. They never closed. No act of God is going to shut them down. And they don't care about people getting to work or home. There is flooding in parts of our state and lots of downed trees. My old house stood up to Irene and told her to go somewhere else!
thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I was really getting worried yesterday. We had the windows shut and locked but water was still leaking in from the window sills filling up with water. I put towels on the window sills on that side of the house. That was the extent of our damage. The basement is dry! I will go out later and take some pics and post them here. We are safe and things are calming down. Still getting a light rain at this point.

I am so glad you made out OK. I know you were really worried
We just got power back ... most of RI seeme to lose power for along time because the feeder lines from out of state had issues and it blew out like 20 substations around the state.
We made out fine, though. Just two really big branches came down, but I cleaned that up yesterday afternoon.

Very glad everything went smoothly! It's sunny and beautiful here... still a bit windy but nothing major.

Thanks for sharing this update, and the news that all is basically well despite the expected rain leaks, and that your area didn't flood or sustain tree damages or power outages. Whew! Saying prayers for everyone still dealing with the active storm and the aftermath.

we were extremely lucky here. if the eye had tracked closer to us it would have been much worse. we were already experiencing very high tides without the storm.

Another risk in life that you survived!

I don't care to have anymore hurricanes! I was afraid to go to sleep because we kept having tornadoes pop up! Hubby made breakfast this morning and said it takes a hurricane to get him to cook breakfast!
