A Very Difficult Situation

UGH! One of these days I am going to post something that is nothing but happiness and blue skies! Today is not that day. LOL

At my job my best friend got the position of accounts payable supervisor. I was very happy for her and thought she would be great in that role. Well I couldn't be more wrong! First let me tell you being the supervisor carries no real weight with it. She cannot authorize time off or a change in schedule. But since becoming supervisor she is under the impression that she is equal to the bigwigs who have an office.
We had a temp working in our department. She actually had been a temp at our University for a very long time in different departments. She finally got hired permanently in my department. She is very smart and caught on quickly to the job. But supervisor has never liked her. And I am not sure why. I thought things were getting better for my co worker as she got a one month review Friday and she said it went very well. She went out to lunch friday with some other people on our floor. She got back late, maybe 15 to 20 minutes late. She immediately went to our supervisor and apologized and said she would make up the time. Supervisor was enraged. And apparently stewed about it all weekend. We come in this morning and once the supervisor came in (she's always a few minutes late) she sent an email to her department. She assigned us lunch times and even when we can go to break! She also reported my co-worker to human resources for insubordination.
To make a long story short... I will have to give my side of what I witnessed and some of the unfair treatment my co-worker has received. This is no joking matter as I think the supervisor could be fired for some things she has done. The most incriminating is that one time we were walking up the hallway to our desks, coming back from lunch. The supervisor was walking to her desk with her lunch in one hand and a sharp knife in the other. She waved the knife at my co-worker. At the time I thought she was trying to be funny, though I didn't see the humor. Apparently every time my co - worker goes to the supervisor's desk, she waves the same knife at her. I believe that is terroristic threatening?
I know the supervisor is counting on our friendship to protect her. But I will not lie and I will tell what I have witnessed. I will not stand for someone being bullied!
In my opinion the supervisor took a situation that was very minor and created a monster out of it.
I would appreciate and thoughts or prayers for tomorrow. In the meeting will be human resources, an assistant controller and the vice president! After the meeting I might just take the rest of the day off because I foresee being a bundle of nerves.

Holy crap! What a nightmare. Wow. I am in awe that this lady can be such a freak!!! I remember the feeling of being tied to the desk when I worked at Gannett (scheduled everything and if another person wasn't there I couldn't leave) and it was quite torturous. I really hope this lady (supervisor) friend or not gets CANNED. Dang.

All you can do is be honest. The truth comes out eventually and you don't want to be on the wrong side of it. Good luck.

Laura did have great advice. one of this woman's favorite expressions is "the devil is a liar". I think she is on a first name basis with him.

Give some people a little power and they go crazy!! Just tell the truth.

I do plan on telling the truth and maybe even telling them my own experiences with this woman. I just really hate turmoil!

Oh goodness! What a shame this promotion went to that woman's head, but it needs to be dealt with because there is going to come a time when trust and understanding is really going to be needed, and she's blowing this little event out of proportion, so who knows how she'd act. AND you do not want to have the sort of job where someone has a mental time clock thing going on. The only job where that is remotely reasonable is where constant phone coverage is required. You definitely have my thoughts and prayers. Watch out for those HR people, don't get yourself into a position where it gets turned against you. Hugs.

thank you for the great advice! I am really dreading tomorrow but I must stand up for my co-worker. I don't know what happened to this woman but she did this to another temp we had in our department. and apparently, HR already has a file started on my supervisor. It is truly a horrible situation. I belong to a union at work so I might ask for a union rep to accompany me to the meeting.
