I was running errands and picking up prescriptions yesterday
when I saw an old man, decked out in camo from head to toe,
pulling a cart packed with his belongings, including a tent,
leading a young pit bull on a harness. It broke my heart
that he had so little. He wasn't panhandling, there was no
sign with a request for money but I felt compelled to help
in some way.
I circled around and parked ahead of him so I could give him
the cash that I had with me...it wasn't enough being about
twenty five dollars but it would buy a few meals. He was
surprised and grateful for the money, he was a Vietnam veteran
walking to Arkansas. He told me it would take a month.
The weather is getting chillier and I saw his dog limping a
little. This sort of thing is so sorrowful.
In the meantime, our Congressmen wasted 24 billion dollars
dithering and posturing because they don't want to raise
revenues by additional taxes on the wealthy and they want
to get rid of the Affordable Health Care act.
We need to all write our Congressmen and tell them that this
is not acceptable. They write the laws but they can be
replaced...just not soon enough.
