Yesterday

I was running errands and picking up prescriptions yesterday
when I saw an old man, decked out in camo from head to toe,
pulling a cart packed with his belongings, including a tent,
leading a young pit bull on a harness. It broke my heart
that he had so little. He wasn't panhandling, there was no
sign with a request for money but I felt compelled to help
in some way.

I circled around and parked ahead of him so I could give him
the cash that I had with me...it wasn't enough being about
twenty five dollars but it would buy a few meals. He was
surprised and grateful for the money, he was a Vietnam veteran
walking to Arkansas. He told me it would take a month.

The weather is getting chillier and I saw his dog limping a
little. This sort of thing is so sorrowful.

In the meantime, our Congressmen wasted 24 billion dollars
dithering and posturing because they don't want to raise
revenues by additional taxes on the wealthy and they want
to get rid of the Affordable Health Care act.

We need to all write our Congressmen and tell them that this
is not acceptable. They write the laws but they can be
replaced...just not soon enough.

Not soon enough is right. And how sad for that man and his dog... but at least they have each other.

I watch videos on youtube made by freight hoppers. One guy caries a pack and a bucket and sometimes "walks" his sign (maybe 18 inches by 12 inches) in whatever town he happens to be in between rides. Guess he thinks of walking the sign (need food) as work, since he'll say, "I made $87 in five hours... "

I chunk a dollar at those guys that say they will work for food, but this
man obviously had so little and wasn't asking so I felt justified in
giving him the money. It breaks my heart to see such naked need.

Wow! Another comment lost! I think I might be leaving the page before hitting 'send' because this is another post were a comment I thought I left is not there. It was just about how you motivated me to write my congressman, but he died just two days ago- right after I read your post. Bill Young was a Republican, but he was not an extremist and a strong advocate for military and veterans.

Sometimes my comments disappear too. I am on a strong letter writing binge.
The Tea Party is anathema to me.

There was a guy here in Colorado who decided to ride a horse 500 miles, carrying a pug dog in a backpack. Someone called the cops on him because they thought was acting drunk, but they had to let him go, and off he went, headed for Utah. It really is sad to see, and especially for the dogs.

Yes, I could not stand to see that dog limping. Maybe he can ride on the
cart if his foot gets too bad. He looked well fed and I hope they have a
home in Arkansas.

You did a wonderful, charitable thing.

I simply had to do it, How I wish our Congressmen held hostage by the Tea
Party had a little compassion.
