Down to the Wire

I told you all earlier that my neighborhood was kind of getting closer now and we are helping each other more. Today I took my frail, bent with arthritis neighbor to Aldi's. She has been wanting to go and her daughter will not take her. She looks at their ads constantly and wants to go and get some bargains. I go about every two weeks and invited her to go with me. I told her last night we were going at ten but she wasn't ready and her little poodle escaped and we had to chase him down. It took her forever to get her groceries and she lost her cane three times in Aldi's...each time the entire store hunted it down, customers as well as staff. When it came time for me to put her groceries on the counter, I noticed that a lot of it was treats for the poodle, a new harness for him and sweet cakes and pies and wine. She explained that when she bought groceries with her daughter, the daughter does not let her have those things because she says they are not needed. You know I enjoyed outwitting that daughter who never lets her have anything frivolous and I will certainly take her again. Everyone deserves wine and chocolate and fun things to eat. I wish I could bundle up Tina and we could go clean her house but that would be too pushy. I told my daughter she had better not be that bossy with me and she promised to abstain from grocery advice. We are most all retired in this neighborhood and all our dogs are a source of joy,,,and cats too. Most of the dogs are friends but there are some big ones who want to engage in battle. Jose wants to bark and growl but he is over ruled. There are quite a few German Shepherds and one standard poodle and one gorgeous Great Pyeranese...sorry I have no idea how to spell that but you get the idea.

My mother was in bad shape for a few years before she passed, but she had a man-friend and my brothers and I resisted the temptation to nag her about the unhealthy things she did. I'm only a year or two years short now of where she was then and there are things I won't give up. I've always believed in quality over quantity.

My mother went out and bought a new buick just before she died. It had less than a l000 miles on it. everyone is entitled to some joy even if as children we don't agree. I agree, quality of life is more important.

Your patience is much appreciated. What a little martinet her daughter is. The nice thing about Florida store people is how helpful and nice they are. In New York City, not so much. It doesn't make up for brain dead political choices, but it' boggles my northern mind when one drops everything to be sure I'm getting what I need.

Yes, I appreciate the fact that we are nice people but I would trade it for more political knowledge. People here are almost all Republican, shouting fake news at every turn.

Me too and we have good friends on Bella Vista too. It is an exceptionally friendly spot. In fact, although unknown to me and to the Thorntons (a childless couple) Ashley won their college scholarship. It wasn't large but it helps. They set it up for mid del high school grads.
We marveled at the coincidence.

I'm glad you got her out shopping. Everyone needs chocolate and fun things.

She doesn't drive anymore and is so physically limited that she can't walk with us. She is sweet and not bitter about her circumstances and Adam, the little white poodle is her love and joy. He is wearing his new halter.

How cool of you to get her out to shop for herself. You are such a cool human.

It was my pleasure and I really thought it was hilarious how we all looked for her cane and found it every time. She had all the time she needed to select what she wanted and the store people were amazingly considerate.
