Tulsa's Dentist

The local news has not been much more informative than the
national news on the issue of the Tulsa Dentist who may have
infected up to 7,000 of his patients with either Hepatitis
B, Hepatitis C or HIV.

Former patients are flooding the local Health Departments
for testing. The Oklahoma City Health Department is staying
open today so that more people can have access to the test.

Local attorneys tell us that people who have not gotten the
disease can probably sue under a malicious intent to harm
provision.

What was this guy thinking? I know what he is thinking now.
Grab all you can and take off to South America. He surrendered his dental license and remains unavailable for
comment.

Greed again my friends.

SICK! I heard about this but didn't delve into it too much. Some people disgust me.

It is scary to think that we not only have to deal with unwitting incompetence, but malicious intent. Glad you didn't get caught in this web.

This happened in Las Vegas at a colonoscopy center where they used the same drug vials on multiple patients to save money. Thousands of people were tested and a few were proven (via DNA testing) to have contracted hepatitis C from that particular clinic. The doctor who owned the GI practice has tried to escape prosecution by first claiming he was mentally unable to stand trial, and when that failed, he said he'd had a stroke, but the judges weren't buying that and prosecution has continued. He would often show up for court heavily sedated so as to appear not so with it. Some of his employees have also been prosecuted, and lawsuits brought against the drug manufacturer for not making the vials more conducive to one-time use.

everyone interviewed has said they intend to sue him but bankruptcy or
fleeing is probably what he will eventually do. I doubt if anyone gets any
compensation.

It is a good thing that Ted did not go there?

Yes, isn't it. From observation, I would say his dentist was reputable.

The story makes for good drama, but it's unlikely that anyone will actually catch any disease. I think the lawyers will be much more greedy than the dentist. His basic excuse is, "talk to my assistants".

Diane Sawyer is covering the story all next week. Someone already has HiV
and that is how they caught up with him.
