Thousands of people were tested and a few were proven (via DNA testing) to have contracted hepatitis C from that particular clinic. The doctor who owned the GI practice has tried to escape prosecution by first claiming he was mentally unable to stand trial, and when that failed, he said he'd had a stroke, but the judges weren't buying that and prosecution has continued. He would often show up for court heavily sedated so as to appear not so with it. Some of his employees have also been prosecuted, and lawsuits brought against the drug manufacturer for not making the vials more conducive to one-time use.

The story makes for good drama, but it's unlikely that anyone will actually catch any disease. I think the lawyers will be much more greedy than the dentist. His basic excuse is, "talk to my assistants".
