A Tribute to Golden Retrievers

Rex is the first Golden Retriever I have ever owned and he has sold me on the breed. I love his goofy playfulness,
his intelligence and devotion. When one of us is sick, he
is a devoted nurse trying to make us feel better. He adores
children and loves everyone, he is a fountain of love and
affection. A watch dog he is not.

I don't know if it has been picked up by national news but
a lady Golden who was a search and rescue dog has been
put to rescue work again. She only had one puppy and
plenty of milk so she went to the zoo to care for African
wild dog pups whose mother rejected them.

She is gathering them up, giving them baths and caring
for them along with her own fat little pup. Her owner was
generous but she will go back home when they are weaned in
six weeks. The alien smell the Wild Dogs exuded didn't
bother her. She just saw babies in need of a Mom.

She has become a favorite of zoo employees and is rewarded
with tummy rubs and love.

My in-laws had a Golden named Pam back in the 1970s and they still talk about her. She died from eating some kind of black grasshopper when they moved to Louisiana.

Rex is one of our top two dogs so I can understand why they still remember
her. Our other top rated dog was a Yorkshire terrier named Muffin. Muffin
had the heart of a lion in that tiny body.

Awe, sweet story! I love goldens too, they have an amazing rep personality wise! But after having worked at a specialty vet and learning how prone they are to cancer, it makes me think twice before purchasing one. I also used to walk a puppy golden who passed before he was 2 due to cancer. So sad! But yes, they are amazing dogs!

Rex has several lumps on his body but as long as he feels well and plays,
we will do nothing. If he starts to suffer we will sadly do what is
necessary. We do so love him.

That's a lovely story. I'm glad she's appreciated. Give Rex a hug for me.

He basks in love so that extra hug delighted him. How are you Teal? I
have missed hearing from you the last few days.
