Thanksgiving

My poor sister decided to have the dinner at her house because she has three children living near her to help. Unfortunately, she came down with sciatica and went ahead with our plans. I felt very guilty because I actually felt better than she does despite the fact that she is five years younger than I am. I should have had it here but the fact remains that we are going to have to change the venue to a restaurant next year. It was glorious to see all of my family together. I love my nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. My special favorite was there and looking great. Most of my nieces love to wear torn up jean, a fashion statement that I abhor. Speaking of what not to wear, I am invited to a party at the governor's mansion and am a little torn as to whether wear black or white. My thinking so far is a white sweater with some bling, a pair of white pants and if warm enough, a long white cashmere duster. Tell me what you think? If it is too cold I will have to wear my black leather midi coat with the fur collar regardless of what else I am wearing. We have to walk about a block and a half after we park. Last year, Anita Bryant was a guest,(remember her)? and she wore a guadey red western outfit. She looks every year of her age. We will have to miss the neighborhood party because it is the same night as the governor's party and it is no contest. I am hoping some one will have another party. It definitely will not be me!!

I looked up Anita Bryant too. Apparently she is still around. The religious devout use their faith to deny rights to people not like them. So, did the governor serve liquor? Years ago Ed and I went to a neighbor's house for a big party. He'd married a girl from the nether classes and she invited everyone from her church to show off her big house on the water. The minister was there with his wife, a former New York model She told me he had convinced her that "his dream for me was better than my dream for me." Ouch. Anyway, there we were, surrounded by the faithful.
In the buffet line, Ed heard them talking about how important it was to control your impulses, and he remarked, "too bad... I came down here for the unlimited sex." Silence.

Yes, I remember Anita Bryant. Apparently higher ups in Oklahoma still have a soft spot for her. I was delighted when she lost her endorsements. I love to wear white -- usually tailored pants and an interesting top. I'd go with white. (And heavy gold earrings._ Even though we went to friends for Thanksgiving, Ed insisted I cook a T dinner on the weekend following and I did. Despite no guests, it was still a major undertaking. I don't want to do that any more. How to reach him? there will be a lot of "you don't love me" and sulking moments. But I have been undergoing major fatigue. I'm seeing my endocrinologist and am asking him to check thyroid levels.

I went with the white sweater, white pants, white cashmere duster and white short boots with gold bling. I felt comfortable. Our new Governor is very religious so that probably accounts for Anita Bryant. Despite his political views he is good looking and has a certain charm.

Looks like she lost her Orange Juice ad in the 1970s, and in 1985 was dropped from an Atlanta TV show "PM Atlanta" after one appearance.

I remember that! She was homophobic and spouted a lot of Christian rhetoric.

None of your younger family is willing to host Thanksgiving? Has anyone been asked? Just curious. I’m all for going to a restaurant to keep it easy for all .
I’m no fashionista so whatever you pick will be fabulous I’m sure!
Have fun!

My sister and I have relatively large houses and can set up tables enough to have a sit down dinner. None of our kids do. We are talking about 30 plus people! It has been so nice to have it at our homes with home made food but Joan is 85 and I am 90 and it is too much for us anymore.

Everyone wears black these days, so the white outfit sounds nice. I had to order a dress for an event coming up and was trying hard to avoid black, although I've gained pounds and don't feel comfortable in bright or light colors. Anita Bryant was a meanie as I remember.

Anita Bryant was seriously homophobic and if I remember right she lost a tv spot because of it. This is going to be interesting. I am wondering if our very religious Governor will permit cocktails and wine to be served as they have been in the past.

My goodness, Jeri, I just looked up Anita Bryant's age, and she's 79, younger than you are, and you're right, she didn't age as well as you have. I see that she was Miss Oklahoma in 1958, and second runner-up in the 1959 Miss American pageant.

We all get old don't we. Do you remember how she lost her tv show? I don't remember the particulars, just that she made some nasty remarks about gay people.
