Christmas Cards

So far this year, I have received two. One from Rosalyn and Jimmy Carter and one from a retired teacher friend that I used to work with. Her Christmas letter was enclosed and I enjoyed it. I no longer send cards but remember when the list and the stamps were all part of the season. It was a nice custom but the increasing cost of postage sort of ruled it out and we keep up with each other on facebook. I have one more luncheon to attend and one more feast to prepare and then unless someone has another party,I am done with Christmas. I do have to find something for my youngest great grandchild but other than that my shopping is done. Internet shopping is wonderful!! Neiman Marcus Last Call is my favorite for nice gifts on a budget. I will miss my grandchild who is in New York. She plans to come home for four days and I am hoping for a part of one of them. She can't miss more than four days during the holiday season. So far, she has done a little work dressing people for movies but has to depend on bar tending for a regular income. It is ungodly expensive to live there as Teal has often pointed out. December should be a month of peace and calm, parties and festive times and love and caring. I wish it for all of you.

Internet shopping is wonderful, I agree. Alexa tells me when something's just been delivered, too. I like that. And it's fun getting packages even when they're presents for someone else.

It is so nice not to have to wear ones self out shopping and I agree, the packages are fun to open and exciting. I have found TJMaxx and Neiman's last call to be wonderful sites. You can often get Frye leather goods at TJMaxx and the quality is astounding.

Because I'm usually in Las Vegas this time of year, I watch the Post Office Informed Delivery to see what cards are arriving there, and then send cards to those people, though my heart isn't usually in it. Some of Mr. YouKnow's family sends cards but they just sign their name - there's no point to it without some sort of further information, even if it's not a long letter. Sometimes I don't open the cards until summer time to read what people wrote. Once in awhile someone will refer to a mutual friend dying, and they assume I know all about it, just mention it, so I don't get the details. Maybe I was supposed to follow up.

His mother always signed the cards: Jean and George and then put "Mom and Dad" in parentheses, in case we might have forgotten their names and would wonder who was sending us cards. She died last Thanksgiving, and I'll miss that.

There's one couple who were pilot friends of my dad, and I wish they would forget about me, but it's a little bit interesting to see how their lives have changed as they've gotten older. I think they gave up their small airplane the last couple of years.

I used to always send a card to Larry from Mississippi - remember him? When he died, his daughter wrote to tell me that she'd found cards from me in his stuff so wanted to let me know he'd passed. For several years I sent her a Christmas card but she never responded, and she was probably glad when I stopped.

I need to get going on it - have been putting it off. Maybe I'll just sign my name without further information, see how that feels.

we used to moan about the Christmas letters but I miss them now. They were always tales of achievement but they kept us caught up.

I am actually forgoing Christmas Cards this year as well. I have a hard time with it though when I receive them knowing I have nothing to send back! I might break down and buy some generic ones for that purpose.
I hope you have an amazing rest of the holiday season!!!
