My sister and I hosted a family reunion at my house and I didn't get a count but I believe we had about 24 . Joan and I furnished most of the food which was brisket, fried chicken and ham.Hash brown casseroles, corn casseroles, dessert..earthquake cake, strawberries, baked beans, brownies etc. All very good.
It is the custom for everyone to take home some of the leftovers so
they could all leave with enough for supper. My friends had been saving plastic containers for ages and we had plenty of those.
There was a slight complication with girl friends. I knew that they must be feeling like fish out of water so I tried to be extra welcoming, especially with my nephew's girl friend. He isn't divorced yet and I want him to be happy. Unfortunately there is a large age gap between the two. She is 30 and he is 65 and not in the greatest of health. My great nephew always brings a different girl
so we are never used to his choice.
The toddlers were adorable. Jose gracefully submitted to their love play and appeared to enjoy it.
We missed Bobby who was always the life of the party and kept us all laughing. He enjoyed family so much and he and my nephews spent a lot of time together when they were children. They looked like triplets.
My grand daughter, Sara washed all the silver ware and helped with the clean up.
We all had fun and enjoyed being together and that is what it is all about. Ellie baked the ham at her house so that I didn't heat up the kitchen. I have a lot of folding chairs and I set up extra tables so we could have a sit down meal. I bought the fried chicken and it saved me a lot of work.
The consensus is that it is always worth the work and planning. The only thing I find it difficult to get used to is the torn up jeans the girls wear now. I prefer to wear my own clothes out.
