Garage Sales and Merchandising

I apparently have no grasp on what people like and purchase. My daughter in law nerved herself up to have a garage sale and I donated an air fryer, used only twice...new and shiny to the cause. No interest was shown in it at half the retail price. A lot of people came despite the terrible heat and most bought dollar items.

I have friends who can unerringly predict what will sell and have wonderful garage sales netting them big bucks. It is a knack that I do not have. I have wanted to sell a treadmill for ages and it sits here and taunts me. I prefer walking outside and it is taking up space in my middle bedroom.

I have instructed my daughter to have one of three estate sale promoters to come in and do an estate sale upon our demise after the family takes what they want. They charge a whopping 40 percent but handle everything.

At Ellie's garage sale, there were some great buys that went totally unnoticed. I bought a couple of serapes to drape over the porch furniture. She had a lot of clear depression glass that was ignored.

We're not good at garage sales, either.

I have friends who can sell the craziest things. One has even sold kittens.

Depression glass does seem to have lost a lot of the demand it had not long ago. It's still beautiful, but maybe it's the overall economy.

This is the clear depression glass and I remember always feeling disappointed when we fished the clear out of the oatmeal box.

P.S. for some of the better items, she could try E Bay. Or take the items to an antique store and see if they'll take them.

I suggested ebay but she didn't appear to be interested. I am careful about giving advice. She is buying a new car so that her sixteen y ear old can have her five year old Honda, thus the money raising efforts.

I had a sale of items from my New York loft when I gave it up to move in with Ed. My friend, Lila, genius merchandiser, did all the work with help from her industry friends. What a crew. A few hundred dollars, but what a lot of effort. Our garage here is a third world country. It won't get done because Ed doesn't want to get rid of anything.

Ted's work room is a third world country also.
