A Smashing Halloween

I always dress up like a witch and use green make up on my
face but I seldom scare anyone. I do, however, have a candy
bowl that strikes terror to the heart of little ones. It has
a green hand that slaps you when you get your candy. There is
a lot of laughter and squeals from all but the older kids

Almost every one thanked me. This was unusual and the result
of so many people being tired of the trick or treat ritual. If I had been giving prizes, first prize would have gone to
a small ghost swathed in nylon net from head to toe. She was
about ten months old and her head was covered with silky down
and she had a white wreath on it.

My across the street neighbor had on a jester's costume and
his significant other was dressed like a witch. He has a
multi racial family, One little girl who is white, one mixed
race child and one black child. He never marries the mothers
but assumes a father's role with the children.

The best was last when Adrienne and her friends came and carried off the rest of the candy. They all came in and
petted Rex and I noticed that Dakota and Will were with
them. I remember all too well what a time of innocence and
discovery that was and Ted and I had a good laugh when
they all left. There were about ten in the gang.

I had found a big sign that says, "The Witch is In" and
it never fails to amuse me. The kids were all so sweet and
polite and it was the very best All Hallows Eve ever.

Hey Marg there is nothing like good sweet kids for a good time.

That is wonderful! R and I handed out candy last night, he asked me how many pieces the kids could take, and I said let's not say anything and see what they take. I was appalled when the first group of tweens grabbed handfuls. Wow. Others were much more considerate and we encouraged them to take a few more, so that made up for it.

It is such a fun holiday and all the kids were so polite. I have noticed that not many people participate but it is such fun.

The best costume I saw was a baby in a stroller surrounded by a Cabbage Patch box- the baby was the doll. Second place would have gone to a dog dressed like a hot dog and the two kids with him were dressed as mustard and ketchup.

How funny. Some people have so much imagination.

It is good the people still feel safe enough to trick or treat in your neighborhood. In so many, they don't. Sounds as though both the kids and you have a good time.

The children are accompanied by parents except for the teens who run around
in large groups. I loved Adrienne's group. They were so sweet and she felt
comfortable enough to give us big hugs and kisses in their presence.

How Grand!! The drawback in living in the country is I never have trick or treaters. But just in case, I have Snicker bars. Alas, no one showed up.

Well, you can always make a snickers cake or just eat them. I guess it is
from being around kids all my working life that makes me love them so much.
I came across some pictures of 8th graders that I had taken to a concert and
thought about what fun they were.
