I always dress up like a witch and use green make up on my
face but I seldom scare anyone. I do, however, have a candy
bowl that strikes terror to the heart of little ones. It has
a green hand that slaps you when you get your candy. There is
a lot of laughter and squeals from all but the older kids
Almost every one thanked me. This was unusual and the result
of so many people being tired of the trick or treat ritual. If I had been giving prizes, first prize would have gone to
a small ghost swathed in nylon net from head to toe. She was
about ten months old and her head was covered with silky down
and she had a white wreath on it.
My across the street neighbor had on a jester's costume and
his significant other was dressed like a witch. He has a
multi racial family, One little girl who is white, one mixed
race child and one black child. He never marries the mothers
but assumes a father's role with the children.
The best was last when Adrienne and her friends came and carried off the rest of the candy. They all came in and
petted Rex and I noticed that Dakota and Will were with
them. I remember all too well what a time of innocence and
discovery that was and Ted and I had a good laugh when
they all left. There were about ten in the gang.
I had found a big sign that says, "The Witch is In" and
it never fails to amuse me. The kids were all so sweet and
polite and it was the very best All Hallows Eve ever.
