Need ...

Yesterday morning, as I was toting groceries into the
house, I noticed a young girl huffing and puffing on the
sidewalk. When she got level with my driveway, she said,
"Can I ask you for a favor." I replied that it depended
on what it was. She said, "I am late to work at the Sonic
and if I give you gas money will you take me?" I told her
to get in the car and twice she offered me money which I
refused. As we chatted, she mentioned that she was staying
with her aunt. It so happened that her aunt was Dakota's
mother and Dakota was at my house a lot when he and
Adrienne were an item.

She told me that she had a baby and she certainly did not
look old enough for the responsibilities of motherhood.
Especially as she confided that she could not afford
to be sick or lose her job. It made me think of how
hard it must be to try and raise a child with only a
minimum wage job.

Due to falling oil prices, Oklahoma is cutting all
services. Medicaide has taken a big hit. It makes
it so hard for people with low paying jobs to live
decently and provide for their families.

I'm glad this young mother ran into you on her way. It's a good reminder to do things for people when you can.

It was doubly rewarding to help her when I realized that I knew her
aunt and cousin...they are a nice family.

Holy crap! Chickens for target practice? That is beyond disgusting. I didn't know that cable had sunk so low. A youtube video like that would be reported and taken down in no time.

They had the chickens buried so that just their heads were sticking up.
I couldn't stand it. Macho makes me sick.

things I don't need to know in my bubble.

I'm so glad you were able to help her, can imagine being in that position of needing a ride and nobody to ask for help.

I was happy to help out, especially when I found out I knew her family.

A few weeks ago the news said that the stock market is up for several reasons including higher oil prices. i believe it since has has increased by more than 15 cents in the past few weeks. Doesn't surprise me a bit that you'd give her and ride and doesn't surprise me a bit either that Kristy has a negative view of the world because of the crime shows. Donna watches that crap for hours almost every night and I can hear pits and pieces here and there when there's no content coming over my headphones from the computer. I couldn't live with that much negativity dressed as entertainment. Disgusting, really, when you frame it that way: watching peoples' tragedies as entertainment.

Oklahoma is such an oil dependent state and we never seem to learn that
after the boom comes the bust. Ted watches awful shows too and he is
a really gentle person. Last night I had to leave the room because he
was watching a show where they were using chickens for target practice.
He watches a lot of crime shows too.

You are sweet. I watch too many crime shows and would have been terrified to let her in my car. Maybe I need to stop watching them! I agree that raising a baby on minimum wage has got to be close to impossible. It's sad.

You have such a big heart Kristy that I am confident you would have
helped her too. I can't imagine who was keeping the baby. Daycare
is way too expensive.
