Memorial Day.

We are having a quiet day. It is sort of gloomy and just
right for reading and dozing. We are content to rest
and remember. I am mostly thinking of the Veit Nam
veterans who were duped into fighting a foolish, political
war. I see so many of them, now old broken men, in the
V.A. hospital.

We went to the movies on Saturday and saw Through The
Looking Glass. I was disappointed and grew tired of all
the special effects. The only one that I really loved
was the charming Cheshire cat who appeared and disappeared
throughout the movie.

We had Ellie and the Kids and my friends over for Sunday
dinner. We enjoyed them a lot and afterward Phyllis and
I went to the festival of the arts on Paseo. It was fun,
filled with music, paintings, pottery and junk sculpture.
I bought Ted a small Native American water color by
John Tracey. It was boiling hot, almost ninety degrees.
We wore straw hats and took refuge in a bar when it got
too hot. Cold beer helped. I wanted to try one of the
wine slushes but we didn't get to that tent.

Viet Nam was a tragedy and to make things worse, our veterans were not honored for their service. It's good you had a lovely outing.

Yes, Veit Nam was useless and besides all the wounded and dead, it
maimed so many psychologically.

One of the other guys we hang with on Friday evening at the "Think Tank" was wounded several times. He avoids town on the 4th of July. Just can't handle the fireworks at the college which is right across from where we hang out. Bladder cancer is well-linked to Orange. Other conditions may be also but that's the one I'm aware of.

I can't even imagine how painful bladder cancer must be. Agent Orange
is responsible for so much. These soldiers practically took a bath
in it every day.

My buddy who got cancer from Agent Orange is fortunately still alive but many others are not. At the time for him it was jail or service so he chose the navy since his father had been in the army.

Ted enisted in the marines and was in Nam for l3 momnths. It did serious
damage to his head. He still has flashbacks, horrid dreams and is hyper
vigilant. I think agent orange is responsible for his physical
condition. he can't sleep and can only walk a few steps unaided. He
was one of the lucky ones, he wasn't wounded and still has his arms & legs.
