Magic

Sometimes it is hard to capture the wonder and magic of
Christmas when you are an adult. The anticipation that we
felt as children goes by the wayside as you try to make it
memorable for everyone else.

We got our Christmas magic back! I went out and splurged
on a flocked seven and a half foot pre lit tree. I scolded
myself all the way to the store and back for being extravagant. It was so worth it. It took us several hours
to get that beauty up and trimmed but all the vintage ornaments brought back stories of their origins. My oldest
ornament is Bobby's baby shoe. Our angel is one Ted and I
made out of wood our first Christmas together.

Last night was Adrienne's band concert, tonight we will
got to Ashley's concert and Adrienne's jazz band which comes
afterward. My party Saturday night was fun and the food
was good. I wish that I could post pictures but I can't.

I have half a gallon of homemade sangria in the fridge. I
wish that I could share it with all of you. Phyllis makes
it and it is wonderful.

Christmas is all about giving pleasure to friends and
family and sharing the bounty with those less fortunate.
Sometimes thought, you just have to pamper yourself a little.

We went the opposite way and donated the 7 foot artificial tree in favor of a 4 foot pre-decorated beauty we got last summer at a yard sale for $4. Dacorated in an afternoon--well worth the effort.

I still have a smaller yard sale tree but I was tired of it and I love
the look of a flocked tree. Next Christmas, if I ever find it's base,
then I will have two trees!

first married to an atheist and then to a Jew, I am not in a family situation where Christmas (other than Ed must have a traditional dinner, guests or no) is celebrated. At least Jay was happy to go eat out. I do miss the tree and the fun of re-discovering old ornaments put away, and the excitement of finishing the task, turning out the lights, and looking just at the tree lights. My sis and I, as pre-teens, stood in front of our tree one season and, with our arms around each other's waist, sang "Silent Night" to it. It is one of my happiest memories.

Traditional Christmas with the carols and the presents and the food is
meant to be cherished. You would have been proud of Adrienne last night
and I wish you could have been at the concert with us. Adrienne is in the
advanced Jazz band and the music was fabulous. They played "I'll be home
for Christmas" and it almost brought tears to my eyes but then they really roused us up. She had a trumpet solo.

I'm glad you pampered yourself, as you call it. Pampering to me would be a spa day! how did you make a wood angel? Sounds like a good idea! And Sangria!!! Yum! I could easily take some of that off of your hands.

Ted cut the shape out of wood, then we painted the angel and applied
glitter to her halo and around her robe. She has a wooden clothes pin to
attach her so she stays firmly on top of the tree. I love her. The sangria is fabulous. Just one glass peps you right up!
