The Limitation of Possibilities

This, I think, is the worst thing about getting older.
There are limited choices ahead of you and the very nastiest choice is to give up your independence and settle
for assisted living or a nursing home. Thank God, we aren't there yet!

We have, however, had to give up road trips and independent
travel. I just booked a vacation with the bus travel
company that we went with last year. I will have help with
Ted and with the luggage. Rex has his stay reserved in the
doggy hotel of his choice. This has given our morale a
boost. A boost that I sorely needed after experiencing
the greatest tragedy of my life that will remain with me
always.

I cherish my family. My sister and I have become much
closer. My daughter is my rock and the little great
grandchildren furnish the comic relief. I am so proud
of my four beautiful grand daughters and two grandsons.

I need to do some work on our third bedroom. It has been
a catch all for the computer and exercise equipment. We
need a second guestroom for when the grand children
spend the night. I need to replace my old school desk
with something more pleasing to the eye. So I have
projects to last me through the summer.

The twins will be taking care of my yard again. They
are a delight and they have already been around to
check on us.

I have seen several assisted living facilities when I've accompanied Ed on his rounds. Several are quite nice -- little kitchenette apartments where you can prepare your own meals, or you may choose to eat in the dining room. One in particular is on really beautiful grounds, woodsy and interesting. The buy-in is expensive but, and this is a big but, when/if your buy-in is used up, they keep you. They put you on Medicaid and that agency provides you $160 a month for incidental spending and your meals and living arrangements do not change.

That desk takes up a lot of room. I'm picturing a much smaller table just big enough to hold your computer and printer, etc. It will be very nice.

I will miss the drawer space but I am envisioning a much prettier room!

The bus travel sounds great for both of you. I had to laugh and reread the part about Rex staying in the doggy hotel "of his choice." His preferences in hotels would be entertaining to know.

He loves the people we board him with. They play with him and keep his
furry body under air conditioning when he is not outside.

I figure that if/when the time comes that I can't do firewood and have a vegetable garden I might just be ready to try something new. Senior housing in town could actually be pleasant if I can get around on foot since everything would be in walking distance. It the other residents are friendly I might actually enjoy myself.

I have checked out assisted living. You get to keep a car plus get
transportation to plays etc. I don't think it would be too bad to have
a little one bedroom apartment. There is a kitchenette if you don't
want to eat the meal provided.

I have worked at a few retirement homes... I always saw them as a dorm type setting without the pesky school part. I imagine giving up your own house would be hard, along with parting with some stuff, but other than that? Maybe I just worked at really good places. Seemed fun with little responsibility!

I still entertain a lot so giving up my house would hurt but I am open
to the experience. The little apartments would suffice I think and you
wouldn't have to do any work at all!
