Knitting up the Raveled Sleeve of Care

Why are so many of us afflicted with sleep deprivation? I
wake up from three to five in the morning and can't get back
to sleep.

Last night, I took two trazedone tablets and a sleeping pill
and had the first good nights sleep in weeks. I feel so
relaxed and so much more ready to attack the chores at hand.
I even made biscuits and sausage gravy for breakfast. I
had never heard of sausage gravy until I met Ted. His mother
stretched out the sausage to feed 6 boys by crumbling it, cooking it and then making gravy over it. I am a convert.

Because of wet weather, our storm cellar has been postponed
to Tuesday. The contractor can't risk getting his equipment
stuck when he unloads the dirt. I missed my Christmas
luncheon because he didn't tell me until too late to go.

I know that I worry all the time about Ted and Bobby and
push it down below the level of conciseness. Perhaps that
is what wakes me up but it also keeps me coping with
the every day tasks around me. At any rate sleeping pills
are a rare luxury and only to be resorted to when desperate. I have read of their effects on brain health.

I have too many worries to just fall asleep, so I use John's solution: listen to audio books on my iPod with earbuds, and usually nod off within a few minutes (I set a sleep timer on the device to shut it off). If I decide to leave the light on and read, I have the bedside lamp timer set up with multiple off times so it shuts off every hour (if it's on).

Brain health? Does it include melatonin? I take that pretty regularly!

No, I don't think so but I have heard doctor's say that any form of tranquilizers are harmful over time as is benadryl.

I will try this. Oil of cloves is fairly common and easy to come by. I
will try the website.

Ever thought about ear buds and a radio? When I get up to wiz at 3 or 4 am I let Benny out and this time of year check the fire. If that much activity gets me too awake I go back to bed and listen to the radio. I don't always fall asleep right away but it's a good distraction from mental activity which is pointless at that hour of the morning.

what a good idea! Thinking just keeps us awake. Sometimes I drink hot chocolate and that helps make me sleepy.

Some essential oils can help with sleep. If you go onto Oil_Testimonials.com and sign up (free), you can do a basic search for
"sleeplessness" and get personal stories of oils that have helped people. Clove is one - Peace and Calming (a blend) is another. These can be bought on Amazon. The blends are more expensive and Young Living (which sponsors the testimonial site) is the most expensive of all. I don't buy from them because of this. I had several night time problems -- sciatica, sinus attacks, panic that would wake me several times. I solved these issues with various remedies and now I just get up once, around 4:30 to go to the bathroom and I go right back to sleep. But the oils might help you.
