Everytime I go to Shawnee, I get bent out of shape by the needless slaughter of animals. Along this busy highway, it seems that no one tries to avoid hitting animals. There are always racoons and dogs and cats lying dead by the side of the road. I know that it is unavoidable when a wreck would result if you swerved but that is a very rare sceneario. It is even worse in Kansas. The roads are flat as a pancake with superb visibility. I can't help but wonder why the highways are bloodstained from the impact with deer.
People are so indifferent. We saw a little rat terrior in a red collar, who had evidently gotten out and gotten lost on a terribly busy street. We almost stopped and got her but I ran in a store and had the people call the dog catcher so that she could be picked up. I figured her people would be frantic and would call the pound. We had a cell in the car but no directory....this incident has convinced me to put one in the car. We couldn't take her to the humane society because they won't take an animal without a water bill from Shawnee. Consequently, I am still worried about the little girl.
