Early Fall

Money is slithering through my fingers like there is no tomorrow. Ted got new glasses, two pairs sun glasses and another pair. I have been prepping for winter, I had the holly and the shrubs trimmed and the carpet shampooed and the fire place cleaned. In a friskier time we could have done it all but the glasses. No one ever tells you that when you are a senior citizen you do not feel like doing hard work and become unable to do it. The chimney sweep was almost as bad off as we are. He was dirty, beat up looking, had a lot of missing teeth and was unfortunate enough to be extremely ugly. He had the look of a man condemned to drudgery. Ted had errands to run and as I chatted with him, I found him to be very pleasant. He will be a good resource in the future because he does a lot of work like painting and lawn work. I am doing a wee bit of Christmas shopping so it won't overwhelm me and my budget all at once. I like to buy the four grandaughters jewelry that they can keep. I am having investment club here in September and October and in November we will have the family reunion here. I may host a birthday party or two also. The Governor's mansion is being repaired and there will be no tours until the repairs are completed. I think the real reason is that our new Governor has 6 children and is worried about security. I will miss the tours since it was a chance to give school children and tourists a glimpse of our history. It is also easy and fun with the other docents.

And here I am worrying about the bear and is he all right. I won't be harboring any bats behind my door.

i am good with animals but I don't think I could charm a bear mama into leaving. so I will stay with the baseball bat

I only wish I were as conditioned as you are, with gardening, dog walking, looking after family and everything else. You got me curious about my governor's family and other details, and when looking him up I saw that he got a Ph.D. in political science from MIT, which seemed an odd place to get that.

That does seem odd about the PHD and what is terrifying is his right to life stance and his conservative view point. He is an ardent trump supporter. He was very successful in business and the Governor's mansion is a come down for him. He spent millions on his campaign.

Last week I ordered glasses online for the first time. Had to get a new script and the rest is supposed to be easy. Maybe I made it more difficult than it's supposed to be but it looks like the measurements need to br reasonably precise. On the other hand, when you order glasses at a brick and mortar place they seem to just grab a frame off the rack and say, "try this". So maybe I'll be happy with the result. Happy fall, you still have at least as much energy for getting stuff done as I do.

Tell us how the glasses on line work out. Ted had been wanting rimless glasses for ages and they were available this time. I told him to be sure and get what he wanted. I have some plain vanilla ones and I would have liked a feister frame. Not that I wear them except for reading.

Oh how did I miss that you are a docent??? How fun! I am sorry the Governor is cutting back on visits though. That's a bummer.
I have to say your generation is full of hard workers. I feel like such a softie when I think of all you have accomplished and how your generation seems to take very good care of your belongings. I think I am part of a throw away generation or something, and it's coming to bite us in the arse.
PS Can you write a book with just tidbits of info that I will need in the future?

You and Ron are doing all the hard work and delightful work it is raising your family. If I had a do over, I would have one more child. I would
also travel more. Your lake pictures were so fun.

Once I finally settle on something I think I need to buy, it's as if my credit card is warmed up, and so much easier to keep spending. We are having the hottest, driest weather of this whole summer, mixed with cooler days when a colder front moves through - and those days we can tell fall is just around the corner. But it doesn't feel like the end of August.

My credit card has had a workout! I saw the picture on tv of the woman demonstrating how she hit an invading bear with a baseball bat and it ran
off and took it's family with it. I would feel better knowing you had one behind the door.
