I have been going through the house with a view to decluttering and looking at each room in turn, trying to clean and dust as I go. I have gotten as far as the family room. My conclusion being that I have accumulated antiques, collectibles and junk for at least forty years in which no weeding out has taken place except for a few items that I gave the kids. I need to give my grand daughters some things.
I have china for all four of them but Ted is very resistant to parting with anything. I also have some other things that I have saved for them.
The kitchen is full of chickens! I found them all at garage sales or estate sales and I painted several of them. One of the most unusual is a large home made metal rooster that I found in a little town in Arkansas and brought home and painted. Most people like him best.
The room I am fondest of is the dining room. For years architects told us that they were redundant but it has been our greatest pleasure to finally have one in which to entertain family and friends. It houses my collection of flow blue china. When I was collecting it, it was very expensive but has lost value over the last few years. My SIL collected yellow ware and Martha Stewart started making copies so her vintage stuff Is not worth much now. It is just not big enough. I can seat ten in a pinch but eight is more comfortable.
The living room is one of the least used rooms but I like having it. It is open to the family room where most people congregate.
Laura describes my couch as being over the top because it will
hold two people lying end to end stretched out. The room is a mix of art and pottery we like. Some of which we have done ourselves.
We took two pottery classes and both love to make pots.
Realistically, assisted living or a nursing home will be our next destination so I have instructed Linda to have an estate sale after everyone takes whatever items they need or want. I choose
pretty over practical every time so they won't want kitchen things. I am trying to give disposal a lot of thought because I don't want to burden Linda. She has a job and an autistic son to worry with already.
If you have suggestions, please make them but remember my energy is limited. I can work about two hours and then have to rest before I can put in more time.
