Boiling Over

Ted and I have been seething with rage ever since we listened
to John McCain and his hawkish rants. I have not been
overjoyed with President Obama because he has not been as
strong a president as I think he should have been. However, he has
ended two trumped up and stupid wars that have cost an
excessive amount of money and more importantly, the blood of
American soldiers.

I am proud of our President for using diplomatic means of
solving conflict. Drawing a line in the sand and then plunging into war is the stuff of little boy's playtimes.
It is a childish solution and full of harmful consequences,
not the least of which is collateral damage. The slaughter
of innocents is not something we, as enlightened human beings
want to endorse.

I am not a religious person but the idea of a peaceable kingdom where the lion lies down with the lamb is appealing.

The Masters of War are seething that our President has ended what was a very lucrative war for them. But they still are drooling at the cash they will suck from the taxpayers for the failing F-35 strike fighter program. Over 2300 jets will cost (an estimate- which will ALWAYS be short of the true amount) $400,000,000,000.00. That's 400 Billion.

I wrote the New York Times that had an editorial criticizing President Obama's remarks at the West Point commencement. They said it was lacking ... he spoke of solutions that involved our allies, and d8d not shy away from military action if it was necessary. I said their remarks were more of a strut than intending to inform. Rethink, please, I ended. They'll probably ignore me. It is, after all, The Times.

Munitions makers, oil interests and others who profit from war buy our
elected representatives with bribes and trips and unsavory perks. People
who believe everything they read without searching for the truth are deluded.
I can never understand why people who need social programs oppose them.
Thank you for shining light on the situation.

I didn't listen to him and seeing your reaction I'm glad I didn't.
It's a frustrating world.

Here I am, an old lady of 85 and we have been engaged in some war or other
most of my life. I had a sweetheart in WW2, the same man became my husband
and was called back for Korea, Ted was in combat in Vietnam for l3 months,
Bobby's dad was in the National Guard and subject to call. I live next to
an Air Force Base and my first child was born in a military hospital.
I am sick of war and those who profit from it. I am glad you didn't listen
to John McCain.
