Windstorms' Effect

One minute it snows, the next it's flooding. A friend who lives in a more rural area an hour away said he has no heat, light or water. Local equipment is to blame for the water, I think, and then power lines took out the electric. I guess they'll stay near the fireplace, if he isn't ready to leave and go to a family member's house.

I always wanted to live somewhere I could have secondary power for heat and part of the electric, because this kind of thing happens so often.

We have oil lamps, candles, flashlights and a gas fireplace so we're all good if the power goes out. However, the power rarely goes out and when it does it's for just a few minutes to an hour.

The longest we were without power was during hurricane Charley. We then bought a generator but haven't had to use it since, and although we evacuated during Irma, we learned we never lost power during that event. But through the year we will have smaller power outages -- a bird flies into the works or something. I feel sorrier for the bird. But we are not really rural -- boonie-like but not rural.

We have a small, inexpensive generator which is seldom needed but when it is, it is priceless. Sort of a must for country living. Traveltales and
Fredo have a more expensive model that kicks in automatically and that is
ideal.

And we are way behind in rainfall, have had the highest temps in any winter previously--no such thing as 'secondary power' for heat--if it isn't the temps it is the humidity and I LOVE it!

You all have had such a winter, and here in Colorado (and Nevada) practically none.
