Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Saakashvili done something similar to what Saddam Hussein did to Kuwait? Waited for the moment, then opportunistically invaded sovereign territory?
That means Russia is acting out OUR role in that business, first rushing in to protect Ossetia (as we did for Kuwait) -- a good thing, because Ossetia had a humanitarian crisis -- then, going after the surrounding country for the oil running through it, for the strategic position Georgia holds in its region, for the natural gas of the region, for many things.
Of course, it took 12 years and two generations of Bushes to complete the horror. And we tend to protect rich countries, not poor ones like Ossetia.
And Russia may yet back down due to international pressure. Why didn't the world stop us in Iraq? If only it had.
