Russia = the United States

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Saakashvili done something similar to what Saddam Hussein did to Kuwait? Waited for the moment, then opportunistically invaded sovereign territory?

That means Russia is acting out OUR role in that business, first rushing in to protect Ossetia (as we did for Kuwait) -- a good thing, because Ossetia had a humanitarian crisis -- then, going after the surrounding country for the oil running through it, for the strategic position Georgia holds in its region, for the natural gas of the region, for many things.

Of course, it took 12 years and two generations of Bushes to complete the horror. And we tend to protect rich countries, not poor ones like Ossetia.

And Russia may yet back down due to international pressure. Why didn't the world stop us in Iraq? If only it had.

Good post. I wonder where the next show of aggression will be.

Sounds right to me (your article). I mainly came because the last time I visited you, something happened to my cursor. It was acting really funny. So I'm testing. My cursor is fine. I wonder if it's another site I visited just before yours. I can't remember who that was, though.

McCain declared Russia the "aggressor" and claimed "We are all Georgians." The man is not right in the head. Obama was upset with the Russians not the Georgians who began the conflict.
Can we pick foreign policy experts or can't we?
