Kids Online

While looking for the commercial possibilities of a domain starting with "adopt," I took a look at how adopt.com and .this and .that were being used.

The dot-com is simply a parked page, but adopt.org broke my heart. It's a full site for U.S. adoptions. There is a section devoted to "Wednesday's Child," a program for promoting adoptions online. You can search for an available child by age, location, gender and if they have siblings also waiting for adoption. These kids are all over age 7.

The kids are so appealing -- and many are about to become 18. I can't imagine reaching 18, and having to go out into the world without a family to back you up in some way. It's hard enough WITH one.

Many of the kids shown are hoping for a family with siblings. One boy actually specified a non-smoking family. I thought that was cute. Also understandable.

Never really wanted kids, myself, really. But this site certainly prods at a need in me to nurture some live beings..
