I need a couple of good homeblogs or recycling blogs to read regularly. These are the fastest-spreading type of commercial and personal blogs around, and I’d love to make one too. The kind I like to read would probably be something like a replacement for the old "Hints From Heloise" columns, but add recycling and repurposing to it. Household hints, cleaning, organizing, that kind of thing. Crafts too are part of it. I could use a daily one to read, but I don’t have patience to search for them out of lists every day. The ones I know of are either too focused on child care & cooking — or are becoming generic and too commercial. OneGoodThingByJillee.com used to interest me but now it is likely to seem like an ad for a product she likes, and there are really too many posts about essential oils. It’s a disappointment. The author has a nice persona and is an admirable icon for it.
FlyLady.net is my top favorite, but hers is a system rather than a reader’s blog. I’m looking for something a little more newspaper-columny, for entertainment and hints. Guess I’ll be forced to hurry up and start my own just to feed my addiction. Too many mom blogs out there are largely crafts classes for preschoolers using household recyclables; I prefer something geared toward adults. And aimed at good ecology/environment too: When a blog is supposed to be about recycling but the sponsor is a paper towel company, that’s not right.
After just reading a testimonial email from FlyLady, I think maybe the entertainment value is just as strong there after all. This letter was from a young girl living on a farm, and she wrote about cleaning her father’s tractors with the FlyLady cloths, and then after a quick washing out of the cloth, polished a pair of reading glasses. Kind of hilarious. But I believe it because I use those cloths.
