1. What location would you rather live in?

A. The south end of town -- again.



2. Where would you rather be right now on a vacation?

A. Aruba, so I can say hi to the lizards again.


3. If you could have one new law passed in your country, it would be...

A. No "preventive detention" may ever be done. The idea belongs in a horror movie.



4. If you could solve any world problem it would be...

A. All I can think is "end tribalism," or "end tribal massacres."


5. What single event would you change that happened to you?

A. A moment at a family gathering when I hurt someone.



6. What world event would you change?

A. The 2000 election of G. W. Bush.

 Or the birth of Hitler. Both of these are filthy stains on history.

7. What automobile would you like to have owned in your lifetime?

A. The pink-and-black Batmobile I saw in a dream when I was little. Or for a good scare, the Buick 8 car in the Stephen King novel of the same name. Otherwise, I don't care much about cars except that they run reliably.



8. What place would you have liked to visit that you haven't?

A. This question seems to be asking what place do you think you won't get the chance to visit, but would like to? In that case, London. Or if it's places that no longer exist, then the pre-war Baghdad.

9. Who would you have liked to have spent a day with? (Must have lived during your lifetime.)

A. Bartlett Giamatti. Just to hear him talk.



10. What item that you lost, or disappeared from your life would you like to have back today? (Must be an object, not a person or pet.)

A. The old photo of myself and my little brother in the tub at ages 4 and 2.



11. What would you like to happen to you tomorrow?

A. I wish I could start writing again, and have it be good.



12. What would you wish for your body if you could magically make it happen?

A. The pain gone from my back, my hands, my knees.

 It's sometimes rather debilitating.

13. What would you like to see banned everywhere?

A. Credit default swaps, and shorting stock.



14. What would you enjoy for your next meal, if you could have anything without having to cook it yourself?

A. An open-faced broccoli sandwich with lots of melted Swiss, on 12-grain toast.



15. What would you do if you could make your best friend happier?
A. Hmm. That's an oddly phrased question. Does it mean, What would I do in order to make him happier? In that case I'd make him well provided with money. He worries so much about it.
