Arrgh. Banks. (Yes, They Are Pirates.)

The latest tealpost has reminded me not to delay dealing with my own little bank thing.

A store I called an order in to made a mistake and put the wrong amount on my check card, an amount which exceeded what I had in that checking account. A few minutes later they voided the purchase, aware of their mistake. In the meantime, unaware of any problem, I made a small ATM withdrawal, and I now find an overdraft fee of $39 on my account. Even though I am not overdrawn.

Somewhere in the ether of the interweb, the numbers passed each other like ships in the night and traded places a few times. Probably did a waltz for a moment... The original charged amount does not expire for a few days, the bank claimed. The bank tells me they will not drop the overdraft fee; the store which made the mistake must pay it. They told me to call that store.

The money for that mistaken purchase never left my account, since the charge was voided before it could go through. This is absolute crap.

I did not sign up for overdraft protection, and the bank should simply have declined the charge to start with.
God, I hate that bank. I may have to make good on a threat to close the account, and post the details about it online. But hopefully I can get somewhere.
