A Stroll Through Walmart

I went to WalMart for some miscellaneous stuff yesterday and could not resist walking through the gardening center. There I was, taking picture after picture and no one said a word to me. I think Florida centers look very different from the gardening centers up north this time of year. I remember daffodils, tulips and trays of pansies. You will find none of them here because they do not grow in Florida. The "spring" focus in Florida is on Gerbera daisies, geraniums and various lilies.

I think what I miss most about living up north are the tulips, daffodils, bearded iris and lilac bushes. The wild flower I miss most is Queen Anne's Lace. Yes, they can be smelly and attract bugs, but I love them anyway.

Beautiful photos, Dottie - I thought it was a Walmart ad, it's such a nice presentation.

Hibiscus...my favorite flower.

I just learned that the Rose of Sharon found in northern gardens is in the hibiscus family.

Lilacs fading fast. Freeze wiped out my tulips. Some of my carrots last year "turned into" Queen Anne's Lace--tall with white tops. Strange, although they are wild carrots. Must have been some genetic variations involved.

I love lilacs, especially the French lilacs.

After a very warm March, things have cooled down and we are still enjoying redbud and the early bloomers. Tulips should be blooming soon. I love spring.

I love spring too. When I lived up north, I had over 300 bulbs- over 100 varieties of daffodils and tulips in my front yard.

I get the best of both worlds. The lilacs and daffodils and tulips and my
roses are beautiful as well as the hydrangeas. I have three hanging planters
of the trailing geraniums. I heard that if Robins come early, it means a
big change in the environment.

Does that mean the robins came early? I don't know. I rarely see robins here.

Too soon for plants in upstate NY too. Walmart lost its inventory several times by bringing stuff in way before the last hard freeze. But I like going into the garden center in February anyway. All the tools and seed are getting stocked. The seed racks were well picked over last time we were there at the end of March. You have to buy seeds early to get a selection. Looks like they don't restock certain items like that after they sell.

Wow! Bet that garden center manager is on a short list. WalWart doesn't like taking not just one, but two big losses in a single season.

Ours not ready yet.Walmart has not put out anything for the weather has been on the cool side.

Yes, still early for Maine- bet your tulips have not all bloomed yet either.
