Mixed Nuts

I have a new favorite comedian/political commentator: W. Kamau Bell whose weekly show appears on FX. His first guest was Rachel Maddow who is as cute as she is smart and witty. One of the biggest differences between Bell and say- the Fox line-up, is that those guys have forgotten that they are entertainers and NOT newsmen. Bell is not confused about that. Bell's comments are quite irreverent and funny and right on target. He is not 'roll on the floor' funny- just humorous and entertaining. He is so determined that his show, "Totally Biased", not be labelled a "black show" that he has a 'two for one' ticket price to sit in his audience. If you are attending his show with a person of another race, then both persons are admitted for the price of one. NPR has been giving the show great reviews for a reason. By the way, despite all of the warnings about adult content that precede the show, his language has never offended me.

Now a few political comments.

The DNC screwed up. During their tribute to veterans, the dramatic backdrop, a composite of a naval fleet with training jets flying overhead, included vessels of the Russian Federated Army. Ugh! They really need to train their proofreaders. Assets (and uniforms) have to be checked as well as English and grammar. Romney asserted that this was NOT an error, that Obama intended to honor the Russians. Isn't that just the most absurd thing to say? Embarrassing as it is, I think it is kinda funny.

At least former Democratic presidents stood up for President Obama and threw their full support behind his candidacy at the DNC while Republicans were not allowed to mention George Busch's name at the RNC. Odd, huh?

The attack on the Libyan and Egyptian embassies: the UK's intelligence reported that this was a deliberate, planned attack in reprisal for the death of Bin Laden. The stupid independent movie only offered the extremists an excuse. Even Libya- which has since arrested several men in connection with the death of our Ambassador, reports that their intelligence concluded about the same.

I don't even want to address Romney's response to the attacks. They were so out of line that even senior house Republicans distanced themselves from his comments.

A closed mouth gathers no feet. Unfortunately, politicians are not able to follow this simple maxim.

The Repugs sacked the Farm Bill last week. There goes their huge lead in the drought states.

Was there a vote on it already? I searched and I could not find a vote, just a lot of posturing about how they want it as a stand-alone bill.

I will be glad when it is all over and Romney returns to counting his
money and the Democrats can proceed with governing. If you want to hear
something ridiculous our leading Christian businessman is suing the Obama
administration because he doesn't want to give his employees the morning
after pill or the week after pill being against either of them. It has
had the effect of causing me to never enter the door of Hobby Lobby again.

I am with you on that. I am guessing that Romney refuses to release his tax statements because he made windfall profits between 2008 and 2010...while others were drowning.

I'm sorry my DISH package doesn't include Bell's show. Sounds interesting. I'm a big Rachel Maddow fan.

You can watch it online if you paste that address into your browser. It is amazing how much is now available on line.

It's interesting to hear about the budget cut that is coming along - the Republicans who proudly voted for it last year are now criticizing it.

I am sick of hearing that the Dems "ram everything through Congress" without any regard for the nation- even when the bills in question had broad Rep. support.
